Lexus: Toyota subsidiary wants to bring four new e-cars

So far, it has been quiet about the Asian manufacturer Lexus in the field of electric mobility. But now Toyota’s luxury brand has dropped the bombshell and published the first pictures of an upcoming sports car with an electric motor. Besides the visuals, you can also enjoy exciting specifications. For example, the special built-in battery is said to provide 700 kilometers of range.

Four e-cars in planning

A total of four different electric cars are currently said to be in development at Lexus. In addition to three models for the “broad masses,” they are also said to include a chic sports car. The eye-catching look of this one is a real eye-catcher. In particular, the modern shapes and the extremely flat design look very futuristic.

For connoisseurs of Lexus, however, the planned e-car should be nothing new. After all, the manufacturer has quite obviously taken its cue from the design of its now twelve-year-old Lexus LFA. However, the Toyota subsidiary produced just 500 units of the exclusive sports car with ten cylinders.

From 0 to 100 in two seconds

But it’s not just the range of 700 kilometers that sounds impressive. The performance of the e-sports car sounds really promising in other respects, too. For example, it is said to be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about two seconds. Both range and performance are said to be due in part to the use of a solid-state battery. Toyota is thus introducing an entirely new technology to the currently competitive electric car market. Indeed, comparable solid-state batteries are not currently available from any other automaker.

Do solid-state batteries belong to the future?

But Toyota is not the only company that believes in the potential benefits of solid-state battery technology. Meanwhile, other well-known manufacturers are also investing in the technology. For example, Stellantis (Opel, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, etc.) and Mercedes-Benz have also already cast an eye on the putative revolution in the field of rechargeable batteries.

VW, meanwhile, is also interested in solid-state batteries. In 2018, the company poured the whopping sum of 100 million euros into battery manufacturer Quantumscape, which specializes in corresponding production.

Details are still missing

Unfortunately, info on the upcoming models is scarce so far. This includes not only more details about the remaining three upcoming vehicles. Lexus has also not yet mentioned general information such as release dates and prices.
