LG DualUp: Extraordinary 16:18 monitor starts at 700 US dollars

Normally, monitors rely on a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. Then there are also wide-screen displays with a 21:9 format. LG’s DualUp, on the other hand, takes a completely different approach and comes as a 16:18 monitor that virtually positions two normal displays on top of each other. The unusual display has now been launched in the US.

LG DualUp in detail

For those who expect more height from their monitor, the new LG DualUp is an exciting display that is quite unique on the market. The manufacturer already announced the unusual 16:18 display in December 2021, which is now finally available in the US.

Here, LG relies on a 27.6-inch Nano IPS display with SDQHD resolution of 2,560 x 2,880 pixels, which virtually positions two 16:9 monitors on top of each other in the unusual format.  The DCI-P3 color space is supposed to be covered by 98 percent, and the LG DualUp also supports HDR 10.

The typical brightness is said to be 300 cd/m² according to the spec sheet, while the contrast ratio is IPS-typical 1,000:1. With a gray-to-grey response time of 5ms, the monitor is quite well positioned, but is of course primarily aimed at content creators and office applications, not least with a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

Environmental light sensor, ports and more

In addition, the LG DualUp has an ambient light sensor that makes the display shine brighter in well-lit environments and dims it accordingly when the lighting is not optimal.

The monitor displays images via USB Type-C, HDMI or DisplayPort 1.4 and even offers USB-C PowerDelivery up to 90 watts. Two 7-watt speakers are also built into the monitor, as is a KVM switch.

Thanks to PBP mode (Picture-by-Picture), the DualUp can even display images from two sources simultaneously on top of each other. In addition, it relies on LG’s well-known Ergo Stand, thanks to which the monitor is flexibly mounted to the desk or surface and therefore doesn’t take up any space on the table.

Price and Availability

The LG DualUp 16:18 monitor is available now in the US at an MSRP of $699.99 (the equivalent of about 665 euros). When the unusual display will make it to Europe is still unclear. However, it probably won’t take too long. More information can be found on the official product website.
