Large-scale recall in the USA, Canada and Mexico: LG Nanocell televisions with a screen diagonal of 86 inches apparently have a stand that is too unstable and can therefore fall over. The consequence is serious injury or even death if the integrated stand loosens.
LG Nanocell TVs: recall of over 50,000 models
As reported by DigitalTrends, manufacturer LG has to recall the 86-inch model of its LG Nanocell series in North and Central America. The reason is an unstable stand that can cause the TV, which weighs more than 45 kg, to simply tip over, resulting in serious injury or even death.
Twelve of these cases have already been reported, but fortunately there were no injuries. Nevertheless, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) decided to recall the TV sets.
The affected sets were sold by various retailers between March 2022 and September 2022 in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. A total of around 52,000 devices are said to be affected in the US alone. Customers in Europe are apparently not affected.
The units in question are LG Nanocell TVs with model designations 86UQ8000AUB, 86UQ7070ZUD, 86UQ7590PUD and 86NANO75UQA, whose serial numbers begin with 202RM, 203RM, 204RM, 205RM, 206RM, 207RM or 208RM.

LG: Fault is not with the TV
Curiously, LG sees the fault with the stand of its TV models not with the TV itself. It would be due to incorrect installation of the feet, which led to the problem. According to LG, the fault lies in the fact that users had not screwed in all three letters per stand or that they had not been tightened tightly enough.
“If the stand is installed exactly as described in the product instructions and all included screws are used and properly tightened, this structural deffect cannot occur,” the manufacturer said.
To be fair, though, the feet also look comparatively small for the huge and heavy LG Nanocell TV. Nevertheless, according to the manufacturer, the product is not defective and there is no safety risk, if properly assembled.
