LG Velvet: Smartphone of the upper middle class

LG has already released numerous teasers in the past weeks, but now almost all information about the new mid-range smartphone LG Velvet is known. Only the price is still missing.

The LG Velvet is placed in the upper middle class and is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC. This also supports 5G, so the smartphone is already ready for the upcoming mobile phone standard. Furthermore, the smartphone is equipped with 8 Gigabyte RAM and 128 GB flash memory.

The OLED display of the smartphone measures 6.8 inches and has a ratio of 20.5:9 and a resolution of 1,080 x 2,460 pixels. The corners are rounded, as is already familiar from many smartphones. The display thus covers almost the entire front. However, the notch camera placed in the middle of the top is striking. This is equipped with a wide-angle lens and has a resolution of 16 megapixels.

There are three cameras on the back. The main camera has a resolution of 48 megapixels (f/1.8), but LG downsamples four pixels to one, which means that only 12 megapixels are available. This is completely sufficient and LG thus increases the low-light performance. The LG Velvet is also equipped with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera (f2.2) and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.

Besides the 5G module mentioned above, the smartphone is also equipped with Wi-Fi 5 (WLAN AC), Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB 2.0 Type-C, dual SIM and a MicroSD slot.

The battery has a capacity of 4.300 mAh and can be charged with 30 watts via cable. 10 watts are possible wirelessly after all. LG relies on Qualcomm’s new Quickcharge 3+ technology.

The LG Velvet will be available in the colours Illusion Sunset, Aurora Green, Aurora White and Aurora Green from May 15th. It will be delivered with Android 10, but prices are not yet fixed, as the official launch is not scheduled until May 7th.
