Log4j attack: Website of the Federal Finance Court is offline

In the last few days, the Log4j attack has been making the headlines. This is hardly surprising given the scope of this attack. After all, it seems that the vulnerability of the same name has opened the door for criminals to access sensitive data. Not only private individuals, but also public authorities are affected. Now the state had to react. Thus, the website of the Federal Fiscal Court was temporarily taken offline.

Attack via Log4j gap

Of course, the Federal Fiscal Court did not go offline without a reason. After all, it is not just pure conjecture that Germany’s highest fiscal court could be affected by the so-called Log4j vulnerability. Rather, it is certain that criminals tried to access the authority’s website. According to dpa, nothing is known of any other affected websites so far. Fortunately, the cyberattack on the Federal Fiscal Court appears to be without consequences. After all, the legal institution said it was able to ensure that the attack was repelled.

Time of reactivation still unclear

Of course, the current state is only temporary. Sooner or later, the website of the Federal Fiscal Court will go back online. However, it is as yet unknown when this will be the case. The example of the Federal Finance Court makes clear the risks posed by Log4Shell. This is also emphasized by IT security experts who comment on the current problem. If you currently take a look at the attacks taking place in the context of Log4-Shell, it quickly becomes clear that it is not just simple cybercriminals who want to profit from this. It is probably mainly state attackers who are behind the attacks. This means that the serious security vulnerability also has a potential political impact. And the whole thing is far from over. Experts predict that there will be plenty more attacks in the coming weeks.
