Marshall: Year of the Horse as a source of inspiration for design and creativity

Marshall is continuing its successful tradition of celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year with artistic collaborations. The focus in 2026 is on the Year of the Horse, which in Chinese culture stands for freedom, energy and independence. These values are reflected in the design approach of FCCK, a designer and illustrator from Chengdu who consciously breaks away from convention. Inspired by the Chinese expression “脱缰野马” – an unbridled, free-running horse – FCCK developed visual motifs that combine dynamism and controlled chaos.

His works combine a wide variety of textures such as clay, wood carving, embroidery, silhouettes and influences from graffiti, abstraction and pop art. This interplay creates a powerful visual language that fits in perfectly with Marshall’s philosophy. For decades, the manufacturer has stood for rock’n’roll, individuality and the courage to go your own way. The Year of the Horse is thus not only taken up decoratively, but interpreted as a clear statement for creative freedom. The Special Editions are an expression of this attitude and clearly stand out from classic product designs.

Marshall Year of the Horse: Emberton III and Studio 900 in detail

The Emberton III Lunar New Year 2026 not only impresses visually, but also technically. It offers the characteristic Marshall sound with dynamic loudness adjustment, which delivers a balanced sound signature regardless of the volume. True Stereophonic provides multidirectional sound that fills the room evenly. With over 32 hours of battery life, dust and water resistance and an integrated microphone, the speaker is suitable for flexible everyday use. A special highlight is the first-ever hydro dipping: the hand-applied water transfer printing ensures that each model is truly unique thanks to minimal pattern deviations.

The speaker is complemented by the Studio 900 combo amplifier in the same special look. In terms of sound, the model is based on the legendary JCM900 and brings the characteristic 90s Marshall sound into a compact format. Manufactured in the British Marshall factory in Bletchley, the Studio 900 combines tube technology with modern reliability. Two channels, integrated spring reverb and power attenuation down to 1 watt enable versatile sound shaping – from studio use to playing at low volume. The Year of the Horse design gives the amplifier additional collector’s value.

Conclusion

With the Lunar New Year Special Editions 2026, Marshall combines cultural symbolism, artistic individuality and proven audio technology. Both the Emberton III and the Studio 900 Combo impress with their technical features and expressive design for the Year of the Horse. The limited editions will be available for pre-order on marshall.com from January 12, 2026, while the Emberton III will also be available from selected retail partners from January 28.
