Maserati Gran Turismo Folgore: Electric sports car with 1,200 hp

While the Grecale Folgore e-SUV represents Maserati’s entry into the electric car segment, the traditional Italian manufacturer naturally cannot deny its sporty roots. With the Maserati Gran Turismo Folgore, an all-electric sports car with a whopping 1,200 hp under the hood awaits you next year.

Maserati Gran Turismo Folgore: E-sports car shows off

The electric Maserati Gran Turismo Folgore sports car is set to launch in July 2023, marking the next step towards an all-electric future for the traditional Italian manufacturer.

The GT is certainly not lacking in power. The sporty coupe is designed to combine the performance of a classic sports car with the advantages of an electric car, while at the same time offering a high level of comfort and a long range.

The sports car is offered in three variants. The Modena comes with a revolutionary V6 Nettuno engine with 3.0 liters of displacement and 490 hp, while the Trofeo uses the same engine but with 550 hp.

More powerful than its two combustion engine siblings is the all-electric Gran Turismo Folgore model, which is equipped with three 300 kW engines. In total, there are around 1,223.7 electric horses under the 100 percent all-electric hood – at least in theory.

In practice, the 92.5 kWh battery can call up 560 kW of power from it and continuously transmit around 760 hp to the wheels. Combined with a maximum torque of 1,350 Newton meters, this is supposed to realize acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds (in the Trofeo, 3.9 seconds drag into the country for this) and a top speed of 320 kilometers per hour.

Sleek design, long range

The battery of the Maserati Gran Turismo Folgore relies on technology from the Formula E racing series. Here, 800-volt technology is used, which is said to enable charging at up to 270 kW.

This should allow a range of 100 kilometers to be refueled in just five minutes. According to WLTP, a total range of up to 450 kilometers is possible. This is also due to the sleek, aerodynamic design of the electric sports car and the particularly lightweight aluminum and magnesium materials.

Combined with the novel “T-bone” design of the battery, the GT Folgore reaches a height of just 1,353 mm, making it just as flat as its siblings with combustion engines. Of course, some space is lost in the (already small) trunk: 310 liters are available for the combustion engine, 270 liters for the electric model.

The lightweight materials mean the sports car only weighs around 2.2 tons, and the interior focuses on luxury and modern technology. Among them Level 5 cyber security, over-the-air updates, a 12.2-inch display and a 12.3-inch touch infotainment system.

A 3D sound system from Sonus Faber with a full 19 speakers and a total output of 1,195 watts also ensure a rich sound even during longer drives. However, purely optional, in the standard version “only” 14 speakers with 860 watts of power are available.

Price and availability

The Maserati Gran Turismo Folgore electric sports car is expected to launch on the market in July 2023. That’s still about two years earlier than compatriots Lamborghini, who don’t plan to launch their first electric sports car until 2025. However, the Italian carmaker did not yet name any prices in the announcement.
