Medion Akoya S17405 (2022): Refresh with Intel Core i7-1165G7

Last year, the Medion Akoya S17405 presented itself as a reliable home office notebook with a 17.3-inch display and Intel Core i5-1135G7. Now the manufacturer has announced a hardware refresh that relies on the faster Intel Core i7-1165G7 among others.

The data sheet of the Medion Akoya S17405 (2022) reveals that manufacturer Medion has turned a few screws. The first thing that catches the eye is the faster CPU. The faster Intel Core i7-1165G7 with Intel Iris Xe graphics is installed here, which clocks with 2.80 GHz or up to 4.70 GHz in Turbo mode, and offers 4 cores, 8 threads & 12 MB Intel Smart Cache.

The rest of the configuration has also changed. For example, only 1 TB of PCIe SSD storage (compared to 512 GB) and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM with 3200 MHz (compared to 8 GB) are available, which should ensure a much better performance. However, the SATA HDD of the predecessor has been reduced away.

What has remained the same, at least on paper, is the display. The new Akoya S17405 also relies on a 17.3-inch (43.9 cm) IPS panel with Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Thus, the 39.9 x 1.99 x 26.6 cm notebook weighs in at 2.2 kg.

Features, design and ports

Also on offer are two Dolby Audio certified speakers, a backlit keyboard, fast Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 Gigabit WLAN with integrated Bluetooth capability, and an integrated HD webcam complete with microphone.

The notebook is said to feature a slim design and is made of high-quality aluminum. The 3 cell Li-polymer battery installed in the Medion Akoya S17405 (2022) is supposed to score with a battery life of up to 4.5 hours. Thanks to Rapid Charging technology, the laptop’s battery is charged from 0 to about 80 percent within 60 minutes.

Windows 11 Home is used as the operating system, while the selection of ports is also impressive:

Prices and Availability

The manufacturer has not yet revealed when the new Medion Akoya S17405 (2022) notebook will be available in stores and how expensive the refresh will be. However, we assume that the new edition will replace the sold-out predecessor and should start at an MSRP of around 800 Euros shortly.
