Meta publishes study on Corona impact in social network

The corona pandemic has now had a decisive impact on social interaction for more than two years. Stories of family members, friends and work colleagues turning their backs on each other are not uncommon. Politicians and journalists have also had to fear for their physical integrity in some cases, as they have become victims of hatred and incitement. This is true not only in “real life” but also on the Internet. But also the other effects, which one can read out from the report, make thoughtful.

Examining Conversational Trends

Meta’s report focused on conversation trends that were significant during the “Corona years.” In doing so, the group can access a database that probably makes many a sociologist out there jealous. The social network now has over three billion users. Meta analyzed the data collected over a period of 15 months to pick out the topics that are currently of great relevance. The result is what many people have already suspected: Corona has changed large parts of society – including the Internet. Meta comments on the results of his investigation as follows:

“The physical, mental and spiritual impact of the coronavirus pandemic was profound. In our latest global foresight survey, we found that the future is not what it used to be: 37 percent of respondents said the pandemic has caused them to rethink their life purpose and priorities, while 41 percent said that if given the chance again, they would choose a different career. And 65 percent now expect more from their work and life.”

Changed View of Life

On social media in particular, more and more people seem to be giving unrestrained vent to their frustrations. What was previously only considered a feeling, Meta as the group behind Facebook has now substantiated in the context of its report. But it is not only the abrupt interaction that is striking. The changed view of life also seems to affect many people. Some employees, for example, have had to feel that their job is anything but secure, but rather hangs by a thread in the event of such an exceptional situation. Others, working in the medical sector, have had to experience first-hand what it means to have everything demanded of one’s job. Accordingly, the results are hardly surprising.
