Microsoft presents quarterly figures and holds out the prospect of innovations

In its obligatory evaluation of the quarterly figures, tech company Microsoft was not only able to score with pleasing numbers. The number of users of computers with Windows operating systems continues to rise. And the curve does not seem to flatten out. On top of that, the US company used the occasion to once again make clear what its plans are for the near future.

A real Corona winner

The Corona pandemic forced many into the home office. To make up for a lack of features, a PC was needed. Windows computers are still the obvious solution for many. But it wasn’t necessarily the hardware that helped the company soar. Instead, Microsoft profited above all from the rush for corresponding software solutions. In order to bridge distances, video conferencing became part of everyday life for many people. Here, too, the U.S. company let the figures speak for themselves. For example, usage in the “Corona years” has increased sixfold since 2019. The same also applies to pastimes away from work. Finally, the number of streaming use on Netflix & Co. increased by 70 percent. Gambling was up 35 percent.

Doing everyday things on the PC

One gets a bit of the impression that with the Corona pandemic, the penny has also dropped for many people when it comes to the diverse possibilities of the Internet. There is no other way to explain the fact that the use of Windows computers and applications on them have increased in almost every area. This is not only true for classic areas of use such as we have already mentioned above. Online shopping on Amazon & Co. as well as the use of medical offers seems to become more and more desirable, too. All in all, Windows computers were used ten percent more in the “Corona years”.

Good prospects for Windows 11

Windows 11, meanwhile, appears to be doing well. Microsoft CEO Panos Panay, for example, stresses that user feedback is much better than it was when the company switched from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Users also seem to have a keen interest in the new possibilities that the operating system offers. After all, according to the Microsoft boss, they are investing 40 percent more in Windows 11. Since Microsoft has not overlooked the fact that nowadays it earns money primarily with store solutions, the boss also emphasizes once again the increased importance of the company’s own store. With the introduction of Windows 11, it was used three times as much as before.

Android apps soon on Windows 11

Following the many marketing-effective working off of the positive quarterly figures also followed a few exciting news. For example, it should be possible to use the Amazon Store as early as February. Android apps can then be downloaded via this. Furthermore, there will be a few improvements in the area of user-friendliness. On the one hand, it should be possible to mute the microphone via the taskbar in Windows in the future. The classic Windows Media Player and the iconic Notepad will also get a makeover in February.
