Mid-range with full features: Redmi Note 11 Pro (5G) available

Xiaomi has always scored with competitive hardware at a very good value for money. The extremely popular Redmi series is a symbol for that. The Chinese tech company has managed to conquer the field of mid-range smartphones. Now the long-awaited successor of the popular Redmi Note 10 is coming, but we cannot expect just one device. Xiaomi launches two promising smartphones at once with the Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G.

More rough edges…

…are offered by the smartphones, at least from a design perspective. Because Xiaomi has changed something here. Both smartphones are now less round and more angular. This should not only meet modern aesthetics. On top of that, a more angular design also means a better grip. This is not only a huge leap from the Redmi Note 10; the standard version of the Redmi Note 11 also relies on a rather old-fashioned round design. A brave and commendable step by Xiaomi, which reminds a bit of the leap from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 12.

In terms of dimensions, again, not much has changed. Those who could hold the Note 10 Pro very well in their hands and liked the form factor will also be happy with the successor. It measures a respectable 76.1 mm x 164.2 mm x 8.2 mm. With a weight of 202 grams, it is not a lightweight, but not a brick either. Smartphones in this format unfortunately have a tendency to slip out of the hand and fall to the floor when operated with one hand. Therefore, it makes all the more sense that Xiaomi gives the phablet a stable Gorilla Glass 5.

But the Note 11 Pro should not only be protected from falls. Thanks to IP53 certification, you also don’t have to fear the damaging penetration of splashing water. However, you should not expose the smartphone to more than a rain shower. Of course, there is always more, which many competing products demonstrate. However, we should not forget that we are in the mid-range here. You can either use the fingerprint sensor on the side of the case or face recognition to unlock it.

The display is a real highlight

How does Xiaomi do that? This question must inevitably be asked in view of the display installed in the Note 11 Pro. Here, the Chinese rely on an impressive OLED panel that resolves with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. So far so good. However, the real highlight is the refresh rate. Thanks to a remarkable 120 Hz, you do not have to fear distorted pictures. The 6.67-inch screen should be able to display buttery-smooth moving pictures. Until recently, this was reserved for the flagships of all manufacturers. However, a small wake-up call is the look at the Redmi Note 10 Pro. Even if you can hardly imagine it, this one also already offered 120 Hz.

Triple camera

The display also includes the front camera, which is located in the punchhole design at the top center. However, the large camera module on the smartphone’s back is much more important than the “selfie snapper” with a resolution of 16 megapixels. This is made up of a total of three different lenses. The centerpiece is undoubtedly the main camera, which has a remarkable resolution of 108 megapixels. Furthermore, the Note 11 Pro offers an ultra-wide-angle lens with 8 megapixels and a macro camera with 2 megapixels.

5G or no 5G?

If you decide to buy the new Redmi 11 Pro, the question is whether to go for the standard version or the Redmi 11 Pro 5G. The latter not only offers the latest mobile standard, but is also supplied with more computing power. A Snapdragon 695 from Qualcomm is at work here. Xiaomi provides a GPU chip in the form of the Adreno 619 for sufficient graphics performance. The “normal” Redmi Note 11 Pro again uses a Mediotek Helios G96 in combination with the Mali-G57 MC2 graphics unit. That is all we have to say about the equipment differences.

You can determine the other details yourself. Thus, the smartphone can optionally be equipped with an internal memory of 64 GB or 128 GB. The fact that this can be expanded is praiseworthy. Unfortunately, this is hardly ever the case nowadays. Unfortunately, a classic 3.5 mm jack is also a perceived relic from long ago. Xiaomi also gives its Redmi Note 11 Pro the option to connect headphones. Furthermore, Xiaomi offers a choice between 6 GB or 8 GB RAM. Other features like NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and an IR sensor round off the package.

Durable battery

Unlike Huawei, Xiaomi is not (yet) considered a branded child in the US and therefore does not find a place on the dreaded embargo list. The advantages are immense and concern the operating system in addition to freedom in terms of mobile standard and hardware manufacturer. That is why the Redmi Note 11 Pro is also based on Android 11. However, the Chinese tech company gives Google’s in-house smartphone OS its own coat of paint with the self-designed MIUI 13.

Xiaomi equips its Redmi Note 11 Pro with a 5,000 mAh battery. However, in view of 120 Hz in the refresh rate, less would be treacherous. After all, experience has shown that blazingly fast displays have a big impact on battery life. Incidentally, Xiaomi equips its entire Redmi Note 11 family with an equally large battery. However, the Redmi Note 11 Pro can be charged the fastest. Fast Charging is possible up to a maximum of 67 watts of power.

Prices and Availability

As we all know, the best comes at the end. And that should undoubtedly be the price of the Redmi Note 11 Pro. If you take a look at what the smartphone has to offer, it is really astonishing. The smartphone, which is available in the colors “Polar White”, “Atlantic Blue” and “Graphite Gray”, can be purchased for as little as 279 Euros (~$279). The Redmi Note 11 Pro comes with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. With 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage, the price is 309 Euros. For 8 GB RAM and 128 GB flash storage, Xiaomi charges 329 Euros. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is also available in these three configuration variants. The prices here are 299 Euros (6 GB/64 GB), 329 Euros (6 GB/128 GB) and 349 Euros (8 GB/128 GB). At Aliexpress, you can secure the Redmi Note 11 Pro and the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G for the release at the prices mentioned. The manufacturer’s recommended retail price is 20-30 euros higher, depending on the model.
