With the Motorola Edge 2022, the manufacturer has introduced a new mid-range smartphone. Features highlights include a 6.6-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a 5,000 mAh battery.
The Motorola Edge 2022 in detail
Motorola seems to be emulating Samsung more and more competitors. At least in terms of the sheer mass of different smartphone models. Besides the top model Edge 30 Pro, devices like the G32, G62, G82, G52, Edge 30, G22 and whatnot are vying for customers’ favor.
Not to mention the new X30 Pro with 200-megapixel camera or the Foldable Razr 2022, which were officially presented only recently. Now, the Motorola Edge 2022 is a new smartphone that belongs to the mid-range and has a lot to offer.
Here, the manufacturer relies on a 6.6-inch OLED display in 20:9 format that resolves in Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels), supports 10-bit colors and HDR10+, and offers a refresh rate of 144 Hz. With a peak brightness of 1,300 nits, it also achieves an excellent value.
Under the hood is the efficient MediaTek Dimensity 1050 chip, which is supported by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Android 12 including Motorola’s My UX is used as the operating system.
The battery features a capacity of 5,000 mAh and can be charged with a maximum of 30 watts, while wirelessly 15 watts are possible and even reverse wireless charging is enabled (with 5 watts). Thus, the Edge 2022 should be able to achieve a battery life of up to 2 days.
The smartphone, which measures 160.86 x 74.24 x 7.99 mm and weighs 170 grams, is also IP52 water-resistant and has a USB Type-C port. Also on offer are two stereo speakers, three microphones, 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and Wi-Fi 6 (Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax).
Strong camera setup
The cameras of the Motorola Edge 2022 also make quite a splash, at least on paper. The manufacturer relies on a main camera with a resolution of 50 megapixels and an open aperture of f/1.8, which is also optically stabilized (OIS).
This is combined with a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an aperture of f/1.5 and a field of view of 120 degrees. It also offers a macro mode, while a depth sensor rounds out the rear-facing lineup.
On the front, you will find a 32-megapixel selfie camera (f/2.45) in a centrally placed punch hole. Videos can be recorded in 4K resolution with up to 60 frames per second on the rear, but only in 1080p with 30 FPS on the front.
In return, the cameras offer some exciting features. Thanks to Dual Capture, videos can be recorded with the front and rear cameras simultaneously. In addition, super-slow motion shots, as well as various filter modes are possible.
Price and Availability
The Motorola Edge 2022 will launch soon in the U.S. and carries an MSRP of $499. The manufacturer has not yet revealed if and when the smartphone will also make it to Europe.
