Motorola Edge 30 Pro: High-end smartphone unveiled as Galaxy S22 Ultra competitor

Motorola attacks the Android throne and has announced the “best Android camera smartphone” Motorola Edge 30 Pro. It comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, offers stylus support and relies on a 50-megapixel main camera.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro in detail

With the Motorola Edge 30 Pro, the manufacturer has presented its new Android flagship smartphone that is positioned as a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra on the market. Among other things, this is evident in the operation via the specially developed Smart Stylus, which enables handwritten notes or the creation of graphics, for example.

Unlike Samsung, the stylus is only available separately and cannot be sunk into the device’s case. Instead, the pen comes with a special phone case that holds the stylus along with the 30 Pro.

Technically, the smartphone relies on the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Qualcomm, which is supported by 12 gigabytes of LPDDR5 RAM. Furthermore, 256 GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage is offered, which can be expanded by up to 1 TB via microSD card.

The display of the Motorola Edge 30 Pro is 6.7 inches and relies on an OLED panel with Full HD+ resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels) including 10-bit colors, a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a touch rate of 360 Hz without stylus or 240 Hz with stylus. The screen-to-body rate, i.e. the ratio of the screen to the entire smartphone, is 88.5 percent.

Durable battery

The battery capacity of the Motorola Edge 30 Pro is 4,800 mAh, which, according to the manufacturer, realizes a runtime of 35.7 hours. Thanks to 68W TurboPower fast charging, the smartphone can be fully charged to over 50 percent in 15 minutes. Wireless charging up to 15 watts is also supported, while the 30 Pro also charges other devices via Reverse Wireless Charging with up to 5 watts.

For sound, two stereo speakers are integrated and feature Dolby Atmos certification. This is supposed to achieve a high-resolution, spatial sound. In terms of connectivity, the Edge 30 Pro relies on 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and wireless thanks to Wi-Fi 6E in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz network. In addition, the smartphone supports dual-SIM operation.

The Edge 30 Pro measures 163.06 x 75.95 x 8.79 mm (length x width x height) and weighs 196 grams. The front features 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with anti-fingerprint coating and IP52 protection against water splashes. In terms of ports, USB Type-C and DisplayPort 1.4 are available.

With the help of “Ready For”, the smartphone can also be connected wirelessly to an external screen or TV as a PC replacement, for example to make video calls, play games or be used as a webcam.

Powerful cameras

On the rear, the Motorola Edge 30 Pro relies on a triple camera setup. It’s made up of a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera complete with dedicated macro mode, and a depth sensor for “Instagram-ready photos with a soft, natural blur in the background.”

On the front, the manufacturer installs a 60-megapixel selfie cam in a centrally placed punch hole. Thanks to quad-pixel technology, four pixels are combined into one, which is supposed to provide better sensitivity in low-light conditions.

The smartphone records videos in 8K UHD (24 fps), 4K UHD (60/30 fps), FHD (60/30 fps) or slow-motion FHD (960/240/120 fps). Videos in 4K UHD (60/30 fps), FHD (60/30 fps), and slow-motion FHD (240/120 fps) are possible for the front camera. The Edge 30 Pro also ships from the factory with Android 12, which comes with MyUX.
