MSI GE76 Raider presented: Gaming machine with RTX 3080

MSI has made a real declaration of war when it comes to uncompromising gaming notebooks. The Taiwanese company has unveiled the latest generation of its most powerful model. Looking at the specs of MSI’s new GE76 Raider, gamers’ hearts beat faster. Besides the Core i9-11980HK, the GeForce RTX 3080 from Nvidia is also used – at least in the maximum configuration. Thus, not only a rich processor, but also a lot of graphics performance should be provided.

New flagship on the way

MSI’s goal can be found out quickly when looking at the small print of the GE76 Raider – uncompromising gaming technology that is supposed to make the competition tremble. Is this justified? According to what we know so far, Razer, Dell & Co. will have to dress warmly. First of all, let’s start with the looks. The new GE76 Raider is supposed to weigh 2.9 kg and measure 25.9 mm in thickness. Compact dimensions, such as we know from Razer’s Blade series, are not found here. But you’ll probably have to pay this price if you want to launch such a performance machine on the market.

The design continues. While the dimensions are rather clumsy, the design is pleasantly unagitated. Here, the Taiwanese rely on a simple exterior. But of course, RGB can’t be missing on the new GE76 Raider. There is a huge RGB bar on the front, which should conjure up great effects especially in dark surroundings. Of course, the keyboard also offers a nice RGB illumination, which is impressive. What we do not know from the predecessor is the CPU technology. From now on, MSI relies on Intel’s brand-new Tiger Lake H CPUs.

Brand new Intel CPU

If you take a look inside the GE76 Raider, you can no longer speak of “plain” or “inconspicuous”. Quite the opposite. MSI has equipped its gaming machine with the latest processor technology from Intel. You have the choice between the Core i7-11800H and the Core i9-11980HK. Both CPUs work with a total of eight cores and 16 threads. Not only the processor, but also the graphics power is impressive. In the “weakest” or better “least powerful” version, the Taiwanese manufacturer installs the GeForce RTX 3060 from Nvidia. The two stronger versions come with the other two GPUs from the Ampere series. Besides the RTX 3070, you can also opt for the RTX 3080.

MSI also has big plans for the display – at least in the full configuration. By default, the 17.3-inch display offers a Full HD resolution. It also offers a refresh rate of 144 Hz. If that is not enough, you can also get an upgrade for a surcharge. Thus, you can also buy the GE76 Raider with Full HD resolution and a smoother frame rate of 360 Hz. Also 1,440p and 240 Hz are possible. In the TOP features, the gaming notebook offers 4K and 120 Hz. The look at the working memory is really impressive. Thus, the CPU is supported by up to 64 GB of RAM. MSI wants to provide a maximum of 2 TB of storage in the form of a PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 SSD. If that is not enough, you can provide even more storage thanks to the additional PCIe Gen3 x4 port.

A lot of ports

To ensure that peripherals and other input devices also find enough space in the 17-incher, MSI once again relies on an extensive selection of ports. Besides 1x Thunderbolt 4, the notebook has 1x USB-C (3.2 Gen 2), 3x USB-A, 1x Mini-DisplayPort, 1x HDMI, 1x 3.5 mm jack and 1x SD card reader. Besides Killer E3100 Ethernet, WiFi 6E is also supposed to provide fast Internet.

Stable wireless connections should be possible thanks to Bluetooth 5.2. A thick case like the GE76 Raider not only offers space for graphics and processor power. On top of that, a large battery can be stowed away. This is also the case here. MSI provides its gaming monster with a 99.9 watt hour battery. As the combination of two power supplies with 280 and 240 respectively makes clear, the “beast” will also need this power.

Price and availability

We don’t know anything about the German prices of the upcoming gaming flagship yet. In the US, however, the notebook is expected to launch at an MSRP starting at $1,499. That corresponds to about 1,235 Euros.
