After seven years, one of the most iconic graphics card series in the hardware world celebrates its comeback: MSI announces the GeForce RTX 5090 32G LIGHTNING at CES 2026. The new flagship marks the pinnacle of design, cooling performance and overclocking technology – developed for enthusiasts who know no compromise. With the combination of NVIDIA Blackwell architecture, DLSS 4 and a completely redesigned liquid cooling system, MSI is bringing the LIGHTNING series back into the limelight in impressive style.
- Limited edition of only 1,300 units worldwide
- Liquid-cooled design with 8-inch display and carbon look
- Custom PCB and power design for extreme overclocking
- Exclusive Lightning Hub software and mobile Overdrive app
Liquid cooling meets premium design
The RTX 5090 32G LIGHTNING sets new standards in appearance and function. The eye-catching 8-inch display on the front shows live system values, animations or personalized artwork on request. The back is finished with precise carbon elements and Lightning Cut accents – each one is numbered and has collector’s status.

Technically, the card is defined by a completely new thermal system. A full-cover coldplate covers the GPU, VRAM and power supply and distributes the heat evenly across all relevant areas. For this purpose, a next-generation high-pressure pump works with a hybrid fin radiator that uses targeted hot/cold zones for maximum heat dissipation. This system is complemented by the Lightning Fan, which offers high airflow with low noise thanks to its aerodynamically optimized geometry. This combination promises the most efficient cooling ever realized in an MSI graphics card – ideal for overclocking records.
Overclocking without compromise
Inside the GeForce RTX 5090 LIGHTNING is a specially developed custom PCB with 3-oz copper layers and components of the highest quality. The new power delivery architecture ensures a clean and stable power supply – an essential factor for overclocking beyond standard performance.
A dual BIOS system enables switching between standard and performance profiles, while the OC engine allows the finest frequency adjustments with maximum stability. Together with the NVIDIA Blackwell GPU, the card unleashes the full power of CUDA, Tensor and RT cores supported by DLSS 4. Gamers benefit from dramatically higher frame rates, while creators benefit from features such as NVIDIA Studio and accelerated AI workflows.
The LIGHTNING is clearly designed to break records: MSI will conduct benchmarks with partners worldwide to publicly demonstrate the card’s performance.

Smart control with Lightning Hub and Overdrive app
MSI is introducing two new software solutions for maximum control. The web-based Lightning Hub allows tuning of clock frequencies, voltages and fan curves directly in the browser – without additional system load. Users can also individually configure the 8-inch display and synchronize visual effects.
The Lightning Overdrive mobile app extends control to smartphones and tablets. It offers real-time monitoring of GPU temperature, utilization and power draw as well as direct access to OC profiles – ideal for enthusiasts who want to fine-tune their systems during operation.
Limited edition and exclusivity
The MSI GeForce RTX 5090 32G LIGHTNING will be released as a limited edition with only 1,300 units worldwide. Each card has an individual serial number and comes with high-quality presentation packaging. The model is clearly aimed at collectors, overclockers and high-end users who want to combine maximum performance with iconic design.
According to MSI, the RTX 5090 LIGHTNING will go on sale in the first half of 2026. The official product page with technical details and availability can be found at msi.com.
