MSI Roamii BE Pro: Next-generation Mesh WLAN

With the MSI Roamii BE Pro, MSI is seriously entering the market for high-end mesh Wi-Fi systems for the first time and is relying directly on the latest Wi-Fi 7 wireless standard. The goal is clear: maximum speed, high stability and comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage, even in large apartments or detached houses. We were able to try out the MSI Roamii BE Pro and tell you whether the concept works and for which users the mesh system is particularly suitable.

First impression and design

The MSI Roamii BE Pro makes a high-quality impression as soon as it is unpacked. The mesh units have a modern and understated design so that they can be easily integrated into living or working spaces. MSI has opted for a white casing in very well-made plastic. The design is angular and columnar. A large 7 can be seen on the front, which immediately makes it clear that the system supports the latest WiFi standard.

If you look at the WiFi unit from above, you will see another triangle, which also forms the number 7 if you look closely. MSI also houses the fans in the raised area of the 7. When it gets dark, the mesh system has another ace up its sleeve. Discreet RGB lighting effects can be activated as an option, which can be adjusted in several presets. The corresponding LEDs are located on the underside, which provides chic indirect lighting.

This should be particularly exciting for MSI fans, as the manufacturer is now known for giving its gadgets chic RGB lighting. But this is not a must. If you prefer to use the mesh system with restraint, you can also deactivate the RGB lighting. This is a really good solution, as the unit should generally be placed in an easily visible location to ensure the best possible signal coverage.

You have two different options when choosing a location. On the one hand, the system can simply be placed on the floor. Alternatively, it can also be wall-mounted. This opens up a great deal of flexibility for the user. The numerous connections are located at the rear. In addition to 4x LAN ports, there is also a USB 3.0 type A port. The sync and reset button and the input for the mains cable are also located here.

Technical basis: Wi-Fi 7 and tri-band architecture

At the heart of the Roamii BE Pro is support for the new Wi-Fi 7 standard (IEEE 802.11be). This brings several decisive improvements compared to Wi-Fi 6 and 6E. The system operates simultaneously on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz and can use several frequency bands in parallel thanks to multi-link operation (MLO).

In practice, this means more stable connections, lower latency and better utilization of the available bandwidth. This is especially true when many devices are active in the network at the same time. In addition, 4K QAM and 320 MHz channels are supported, allowing very high theoretical data rates to be achieved.

MSI specifies a combined WLAN performance of up to 9.4 Gbit/s, which clearly places the Roamii BE Pro in the premium segment. This performance reserve is a great advantage, especially for households with many streaming devices, cloud backups, home office workstations or gaming setups.

Setup and app operation

The initial setup is carried out via the MSI Router 2.0 app and is pleasantly uncomplicated. The app guides you step by step through the setup process and offers clear network management during operation. Practical extras such as an analysis of the WLAN coverage or notifications for newly connected devices further increase the everyday use.

Advanced users will also get their money’s worth, as many settings can be adjusted in detail without the app appearing overloaded. But the app not only scores points for its quick setup and ease of use, but also for a truly innovative feature. Anyone who has ever set up a WiFi router or mesh system in their own home knows what the biggest challenge is: finding the right location.

While competitors mainly rely on gut feeling, MSI supports users with the Roamii BE Pro. The MSI Router 2.0 app features a handy hotspot finder that helps you find the optimal location for the mesh element. This allows you to get maximum signal coverage from the mesh system.

Performance and coverage in everyday use

In everyday life, a mesh system shows its strengths above all in terms of coverage – and this is exactly where the MSI Roamii BE Pro scores. According to the manufacturer, up to 557 m² can be covered with two units. And that with up to 200 connected end devices at the same time. This makes the system particularly interesting for larger apartments, multi-storey houses or modern smart homes in which numerous IoT devices are permanently online.

Another advantage is the intelligent roaming between the individual mesh nodes. If you move around the home with your smartphone, tablet or laptop, the switch between access points is seamless and without any noticeable connection interruptions. This is a convenience gain that should not be underestimated, especially for video conferences or streaming sessions.

Wired performance and backhaul

In addition to the strong wireless performance, the MSI Roamii BE Pro also impresses with its wired connection. Each unit has several 2.5 Gbit/s Ethernet ports that can be used flexibly. The option to connect the mesh nodes via wired backhaul is particularly practical. This reduces the load on the WLAN and the maximum performance is available to the end devices.

This is a clear advantage over many cheaper mesh systems. For users with NAS systems, gaming PCs or fast fiber optic connections, this variety of connections is a strong argument. When it comes to security, MSI relies on the integrated FortiSecu security suite. This offers comprehensive protection against external threats, enables guest networks to be set up and provides extensive parental control and filtering functions.

VPN functions are also available, including modern protocols such as WireGuard, which makes the Roamii BE Pro attractive not only for families but also for home office users. On a positive note, many of these security functions can be used without additional subscriptions – a point where some competing products are less customer-friendly.

Price and availability

The MSI Roamii BE Pro Mesh System celebrates its market launch today, January 22. The duo pack consisting of two mesh elements is available at an RRP of €319.00. Considering the performance it offers, this is a really fair deal.

Conclusion: Future-proof mesh system for high demands

With the Roamii BE Pro, MSI delivers a very powerful mesh Wi-Fi system that is clearly designed for future-proofing and performance. Wi-Fi 7, tri-band technology, high coverage, fast 2.5 Gbit/s ports and extensive security functions make the system a convincing solution for demanding households and modern network requirements.

The price is likely to position the Roamii BE Pro in the premium segment, but in return you get a technically very well-equipped mesh system that should still offer more than sufficient performance reserves in the coming years. Anyone looking for a stable, fast and flexibly expandable home network will find the MSI Roamii BE Pro a convincing solution.
