MSI adds a new model to its in-house SPATIUM SSD product line. The MSI SPATIUM M480 PLAY relies on a fast and high-quality 3D NAND flash that enables a performance of up to 7000 MB/s read speed. Thanks to an aluminum heat sink, the NVMe SSD can also be used in the PlayStation 5 console.
MSI SPATIUM M480 PLAY: High speed and PS5 compatibility
With the new M.2 SSD MSI SPATIUM M480 PLAY, the manufacturer is primarily targeting owners of the PlayStation 5 console and wants to have created the ideal SSD for use with the Sony console.
The new NVMe SSD will be offered directly at release in a total of four capacities of 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB. Thanks to PCle Gen 4 and NVMe 1.4, the SSD is supposed to realize fast speeds. MSI promises up to 7,000 MB/s in sequential read and 6,800 MB/s in sequential write.
Other features include a RAM cache buffer and an SLC cache, while the installed aluminum heat sink with double surface is supposed to provide efficient heat dissipation. The integration of comprehensive data error correction functions with LPDC ECC and E2E Data Protection is also offered.
Apart from that, MSI keeps rather quiet with the technical data and only mentions a “high TBW value” (Total Bytes Written), as well as a warranty period of 5 years, without going into concrete detail. After all, the product website states up to 3,000 TBW.
Pricing and Availability
The manufacturer has not yet revealed details on the pricing and availability of the MSI SPATIUM M480 PLAY in the four capacities. The standard model of the Spatium M480, without the Play name suffix, is currently available in stores with a capacity of 1 TB starting at 167.90 euros. It also reaches 7,000 MB/s in read mode, but only 5,500 MB/s in sequential write mode.
