Netflix is raising its prices again: the streaming market leader has increased prices for all subscription levels in the USA as of March 26, 2026. This is the second price increase in just over a year. German customers will be spared for the time being – but experience shows that US adjustments often serve as a harbinger for other markets.
Netflix price increase USA: these are the new rates
The new prices will apply in the USA from March 26, 2026 and will affect new customers immediately. Existing customers will be gradually adjusted and informed in advance by email. The changes are as follows:
| Subscription level | Old price (USA) | New price (USA) | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard with advertising | 7.99 US dollars | 8.99 US dollars | +1.00 US Dollar |
| Standard without advertising | 17.99 US dollars | 19.99 US dollars | +2.00 US dollars |
| Premium | 24.99 US dollars | 26.99 US dollars | +2.00 US dollars |
The fees for additional members are also increasing: If you want to add more users to your account, you will pay 7.99 US dollars per month for the ad-financed plan and 9.99 US dollars for the ad-free plan.
Why is Netflix increasing its prices?
Netflix did not provide a specific reason. However, the company refers to ongoing investments in new content, technical improvements and the expansion of its offering. This includes live sporting events such as WWE broadcasts, video podcasts and the continuous improvement of streaming quality and platform infrastructure.
With over 325 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix is still by far the largest streaming service. Previous price increases have apparently not led to any significant waves of cancellations, which gives the company the confidence it needs to make further adjustments. Analysts assume that the average revenue per subscriber in the USA and Canada could rise by around six percent as a result of the increase.
What does this mean for German Netflix customers?
There is currently no official announcement of a price increase for the German market. The current rates in Germany will remain stable for the time being:
| Subscription level | Price in Germany |
|---|---|
| Standard with advertising | 4.99 Euro/month |
| Standard without advertising | 13.99 Euro/month |
| Premium | 19.99 Euro/month |
The last price adjustment in Germany took place in January 2025. Compared to the new US prices, the German rates still seem comparatively moderate. However, past experience shows that Netflix regularly transfers price increases in the USA to other markets with a time lag. A similar move in Germany later in the year or in 2027 is therefore considered likely.
Streaming is becoming increasingly expensive
The price increase at Netflix is part of an industry-wide trend. Competitors such as Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and other providers have also noticeably increased their prices in recent years. The days of extremely cheap streaming subscriptions seem to be over for good – rising production costs, inflation and fierce competition for exclusive content are driving prices up.
Anyone who wants to cancel their Netflix subscription can do so easily and at any time. Access remains valid until the end of the current billing period.
Conclusion: Netflix price increase as a warning signal for Germany
The renewed price increase at Netflix in the USA clearly shows where the journey is heading: streaming will not become cheaper in 2026 either. German customers should prepare themselves for the fact that an adjustment in this country is only a matter of time. Until then, however, they can still benefit from comparatively moderate rates.
