At the Peek Performance launch event, Apple as expected unveiled the new budget iPhone. The new model bears the familiar name Apple iPhone SE, while most of the specifications match the previous leaks. At the same time, they presented the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro in a new, green color variant.
All info on the Apple iPhone SE (2022)
With the new Apple iPhone SE, the company replaces the predecessor of the budget iPhone from 2020. As expected, nothing has changed in terms of design; it is still based on the look of the iPhone 8 and relies on a 4.7-inch LC display with comparatively thick edges and a home button including Touch ID at the bottom of the smartphone.
Specifically, it is a Retina HD LCD multi-touch display with a size of 4.7 inches (11.94 cm diagonal), which enables a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels at 326 ppi. Offered are a contrast ratio of 1,400:1, a maximum brightness of 625 nits, as well as a large DCI-P3 color space coverage.
The new iPhone SE measures 138.4 mm x 67.3 mm x 7.3 mm (height x width x depth) and weighs just 144 grams. The smartphone is optionally offered with 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage, which – as always – cannot be expanded.
iPhone SE with A15 Bionic chip
The most important innovation of the Apple iPhone SE (2022) slumbers under the hood. Because now the manufacturer relies on the A15 Bionic chip, thanks to which the cheapest iPhone model catches up with the significantly more expensive iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro variants in terms of performance.
This combines a 6-core CPU (2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores) with a 4-core GPU, as well as a 16-core Neural Engine for AI calculations. This also finally enables a 5G modem in the new SE, which is also compatible with sub-6 networks. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC are of course also on board, as is Apple’s voice assistant Siri.
Cameras and battery of the Apple iPhone SE (2022)
On the rear, the new Apple iPhone SE (2022) relies on a 12 MP wide-angle camera (f/1.8 aperture) including 5x digital zoom, optical image stabilization, portrait mode and LED True Tone flash. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, only has a resolution of 7 megapixels and is not quite as fast with an aperture of f/2.2.
The manufacturer again does not provide any information about the battery capacity. However, the new SE is supposed to allow up to 15 hours of video playback and up to 50 hours of audio playback. Wireless charging with Qi chargers is also supported, while the smartphone can be fully charged to 50 percent in 30 minutes in combination with a cable and 20W power adapter, which is not included.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro in green
A nice side note from the Apple event was the unveiling of a new color scheme for the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 Pro, respectively. The smartphones, in addition to the previous colors, will now be offered in a dark green. Of course, nothing changes in the technical features of the iPhone 13 series.
