New mid-range king? Huawei Nova 15 Ultra launches in China

With the Huawei Nova 15 Ultra, the Chinese tech giant is launching a new top model in its Nova series, which is designed to impress with an unusually slim body and strong camera performance. The smartphone is already available in China and offers a mix of flagship features and suitability for everyday use, which particularly appeals to technology enthusiasts, creative professionals and power users. Below is an overview of the most important facts, technical highlights and availability in the region.

In a nutshell:

  • Huawei Nova 15 Ultra impresses with its slim design, water-resistant housing and exceptionally powerful cameras.
  • The smartphone has a bright 6.84-inch OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate.
  • Key features include four 50 MP sensors and a large 6,500 mAh battery with fast charging support.
  • Sales have already started in China; international prices and dates still open.

New design meets powerful camera technology

With the Nova 15 Ultra, Huawei has presented a smartphone that deliberately focuses on a modern and slim exterior. The casing is only 6.8 millimetres thin, despite the large battery and extensive camera hardware. The back has an eye-catching texture that not only looks good, but also improves grip. Waterproof and dustproof properties also ensure greater suitability for everyday use compared to many competitor models.

The camera system is the focus of attention: four 50-megapixel sensors – including a main sensor with variable aperture, an ultra-wide-angle module and a telephoto camera with optical zoom – are designed to enable powerful photo and video material. An additional spectral sensor supports color accuracy. There is also a 50 MP camera on the front, which works together with a supplementary sensor. The 6.84-inch OLED display offers a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate with high brightness and LTPO technology for adaptive adjustments depending on usage.

Performance and power

Under the hood, Huawei’s own Kirin 9010S chip powers the Nova 15 Ultra, combined with HarmonyOS 6 as the operating system. The large 6,500 mAh battery ensures long-lasting use and can be quickly recharged via 100 W wired fast charging or optional 50 W wireless charging. This means that the battery should last for a day, even with intensive use – such as gaming, streaming or photo sessions.

Other features include advanced satellite communication, improved AI photos and smart software tools. The combination of efficient hardware and HarmonyOS software optimizations should also ensure a smooth user experience that is convincing both in everyday life and in more demanding applications.

Price, availability and outlook

In China, the Huawei Nova 15 Ultra is already available via Huawei’s own online store VMall. Pricing starts at around CNY 4,199 (approx. €520) for the 256 GB version. Variants with 512 GB and 1 TB storage are priced at around CNY 4,499 and CNY 4,999 respectively. International prices and a Europe-wide market launch have not yet been officially communicated. However, we assume that we will be in a similar price region to the Huawei Nova 13 (€ 440.00 *).

Conclusion

With the Nova 15 Ultra, Huawei has delivered a smartphone with a strong technical set-up that is particularly impressive with its slim design, versatile camera system and long-lasting battery. While the camera specs and performance features should also appeal to ambitious tech enthusiasts, it remains to be seen when and at what price the device will be available in European markets. The device is already available to order for users in China, and the prices are in the range of strong mid- to high-end smartphones.
