NIO ES8: New E-SUV with six seats presented

At NIO Day 2022, the Chinese automaker unveiled, among other things, the new NIO ES8 e-SUV flagship. It also employs a brand-new electric platform, boasts an all-wheel drive system with 480 kW or 653 hp, and can seat six people inside.

NIO ES8 in detail

The automaker from China has unveiled the NIO ES8, a new, large electric SUV that can seat six to seven people. It relies on a large wheelbase of 3,010 mm and is correspondingly spacious.

Visually, the 5.1-meter-long E-SUV flagship relies on a new, exciting design with rounded edges and comes with four real seats and a flexible third row of seats. The “lounge” seats promise a high level of comfort, and a footrest and massage function are also offered. Heated front and rear seats are offered, as well as a heated steering wheel, front seat cooling function and 3-zone automatic climate control.

In the Executive version of the NIO ES8, the second-row seatback folds down at the touch of a button to provide access to the third row of seats. Up to 1,901 liters of trunk space is available with the seats folded down. 871 liters with two rows of seats, 310 liters with three rows of seats for the six-seater, 1,861 liters, 871 liters and 310 liters for the 7-seater.

New electric platform

The NIO ES8 also relies on a new electric platform from the manufacturer. It comes up with an all-wheel drive, which reaches a maximum of 480 kW or 653 hp. This enables acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. Braking from 100 km/h to 0 km/h takes just 34.3 meters thanks to the Brembo braking system.

Overall, the E-SUV realizes a range of up to 580 kilometers according to NEDC in conjunction with the 100 kW Battery Pack.

Also offered is the Nomi Mate 2.0 system with cloud computing platform, “full-round” AMOLED display and the ability for OTA updates. There are also intelligent multi-beam headlights (ADB), an Aquila sensor system, 7.1.4 sound and more.

Prices and availability

The large NIO ES8 electric SUV will launch in June 2023, initially exclusively in China, where it will start at the equivalent of around 71,000 euros in the smallest battery variant. Later, even a 150-kWh battery is to be offered, extending the range to over 900 km. More details can be found directly from the manufacturer.
