The range of electric cars is still quite limited these days. The Nio ET5 e-car aims to address precisely this problem. It is equipped with a 150 kWh battery that is said to have a range of around 1,000 km. The innovative battery swap system is also exciting.
Nio ET5: Classy electric coupe unveiled
At its Nio Days in-house show, the Chinese manufacturer of the same name unveiled the Electric Car ET5. It is to be launched in three battery variants. The smallest variant comes in at 75 kWh according to the China light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) for a range of 550 km. There is also a model with a 100 kWh battery for 700 km and a 150 kWh ultra-long-range battery for up to 1,000 km.
The ET5 has also already been developed with autonomous driving in mind and features corresponding sensors built directly into the body. In the future, these can be activated by a simple software update to enable driving functions for autonomous driving on highways and in urban traffic as soon as this is permitted by the authorities. The driving functions are to be easily added as part of a subscription for around $110 per month.
Accelerates quickly, European launch still questionable
Mighty steam under the hood the Nio ET5 has as well. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 4.3 seconds. Conversely, the e-car comes to a braking distance of 33.9 meters from 100 km/h to a standstill.
The price of the ET5 is the equivalent of around 45,000 euros before subsidies. Including battery service, the price is the equivalent of around 49,900 euros. Delivery will take place from September 2022, initially in China. It is not yet known when the electric car will make it across the pond to Europe.
