Nomad Stand One (Max): Charging station gets Qi2 update

With the new version of the Nomad “Stand One” and “Stand One Max” charging stations comes an exciting upgrade for all technology enthusiasts: the Qi2 standard is supported, meaning that not only iPhones, but also certain Android smartphones can now be charged magnetically and wirelessly. In this article, you can find out exactly what this means, how the technology has changed – and whether it’s worth buying.

Short & sweet

  • The new Stand One models support the Qi2 standard, which enables magnetic wireless charging even beyond Apple.
  • Compatible smartphones can be charged wirelessly with up to 25 W – previously, significantly lower power levels were common for many devices.
  • Materials and design: High-quality workmanship made of glass and aluminum, stable base thanks to high weight.
  • Unlike its predecessor: The “Max” version charges several devices simultaneously – e.g. smartphone, wireless earphones and smartwatch.

Extensive improvements

The Qi charging standard has been established for years, but with the Qi2 standard (also described as “MagSafe-like with magnetic holder and higher performance”) comes a decisive extension: devices with the appropriate equipment – not only from the Apple cosmos – can now be magnetically fixed and charged wirelessly. This is probably the most significant improvement, as the predecessors Nomad Base One (€ 122.99 *) and Nomad Base One Max (€ 202.99 *) only supported Apple-smartphones such as the current iPhone 17 (€ 948.00 *).

Thanks to Qi2, MagSafe exclusivity has been lifted, which should of course please Android users. And not only that. The power output also increases from 15 W to 25 W – provided the smartphone meets the necessary requirements. This in turn significantly shortens the charging time. However, the new version of the Stand One (and Stand One Max) not only relies on technology upgrades, but also on high-quality materials, which ensures a premium feel.

The manufacturer relies on an aluminum housing, glass covers and a rubberized underside for a secure hold. This keeps the station stable when the smartphone is removed. According to the specifications, the “Standard” version weighs around 575 g and the “Max” version around 875 g – relatively heavy for a charging station, but this is exactly what gives it a higher-quality feel and stability.

Functions & models in comparison

  • Stand One: Magnetic charging surface for smartphones (Qi2, up to 25 W), additional charging spot (e.g. for earphones) with 5 W.
  • Stand One Max: As above, plus charging puck for smartwatch (e.g. Apple Watch), additional charging field for earphones – ideal for users with multiple devices.

Prices & availability

Nomad Stand One and Stand One Max are available in stores now. However, they are not cheap. The basic model costs €109.00 and the Max model €149.00.
