OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has unveiled the new in-ear headphones from his new company Nothing. The Nothing Ear 1 feature a unique, semi-transparent design and a host of exciting features. Does Pei use them to compete with his former partner’s OnePlus Buds Pro?
Nothing Ear 1 with IPX4 certification and ANC
Pei took it upon himself to unveil his new group’s Earbuds in a livestream. What first catches the eye is the unique design: for example, both the in-ear headphones and the charging cradle rely on a combination of transparent and white plastic.
The Nothing Ear 1 were developed in collaboration with the Swedes from Teenage Engineering, who contribute powerful 11.6mm drivers. The low weight of just 4.7 grams per earphone also speaks to a successful wearing comfort.
Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) along with transparency mode are also mastered by the Ear 1. They achieve a battery life of 4.5 hours with active ANC or 6.2 hours without noise cancellation and can be charged wirelessly. With charging cradle, a total of 34 hours of endurance is possible.
Touch control possible
Thanks to IPX4 certification, the earphones are also protected from sweat and rain. Another highlight is the touch-sensitive surface of the flattened in-ear headphones. This allows the Nothing Ear 1 to control the music, pause songs or skip tracks with a tap.
In addition, if one of the in-ears is removed from the ear, playback is automatically paused and resumed accordingly when the headphones are returned to position.
Price and Availability
The Nothing Ear 1 will be offered via the manufacturer’s website at an MSRP of 99 euros. However, the quota for pre-orders has already been used up, which is why only an email confirmation is currently offered upon availability. The manufacturer does not mention an expected delivery date.
