With the Nothing Phone (4a) and the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, the manufacturer is expanding its smartphone portfolio with two new mid-range models. Both devices continue to rely on the characteristic design with transparent elements and LED features, but at the same time bring significant technical improvements to the display, processor and camera. The Pro model in particular shows that Nothing wants to position its devices as increasingly premium – with a new aluminum unibody and a more powerful chip, among other things.

  • Nothing Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro with new displays, more powerful Snapdragon processors and improved cameras
  • Glyph Bar and Glyph Matrix as LED interface for notifications, tools and photo light
  • Android 16 with Nothing OS 4.1 and up to six years of security updates
  • Prices from 349 euros, market launch from March 13, 2026

Nothing Phone (4a): Transparent look and noticeable hardware upgrades

The Nothing Phone (4a) remains true to the manufacturer’s design philosophy. The transparent back is still a trademark of the series, but has been slightly redesigned. Instead of a continuous camera bar, Nothing now uses two separate glass covers for the camera unit.

One eye-catching element is the new Glyph Bar, which consists of 63 mini LEDs. These LEDs provide information about incoming notifications, timers or calls and can also serve as a particularly bright photo or video light. According to the manufacturer, the bar achieves a brightness of up to 3,500 nits.

There are also improvements on the front. The smartphone has a 6.78-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1,224 × 2,720 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. This makes the display look much sharper than its predecessor.

Inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, which should provide a noticeable increase in performance. The hardware is complemented by up to 12 GB of RAM and a maximum of 256 GB of storage.

Nothing continues to rely on a triple setup for the camera:

  • 50 MP main camera
  • Ultra wide-angle camera
  • Telephoto lens with 80 mm focal length

The new telephoto lens uses a prism construction which, according to the manufacturer, is more compact than previous solutions. At the same time, it enables a 3.5x optical magnification, which is remarkable for smartphones in this price range.

Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: aluminum design, glyph matrix and more powerful chip

With the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, the manufacturer goes one step further and positions the model with a visibly higher quality. Instead of the transparent design, the Pro device uses an aluminum unibody for the first time, which, according to Nothing, should ensure a more stable construction and a more grown-up look. With a thickness of 7.95 millimetres, it is also one of the particularly slim smartphones with a metal casing.

Another highlight is the new Glyph Matrix on the back. This consists of 137 LEDs that can display various functions – such as a digital clock, timer, battery status or individual symbols for certain contacts. The LED matrix can also be used as a photo light with up to 3,000 nits.

Technically, the Pro model relies on the more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. In combination with LPDDR5X RAM, this provides more performance for gaming, multitasking and AI functions.

Nothing also improves the display. The 6.83-inch AMOLED panel offers:

  • 1,260 × 2,800 pixel resolution
  • 144 Hz refresh rate
  • Up to 5,000 nits peak brightness
  • Gorilla Glass 7i for protection

The camera has also been improved. The main camera uses a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-700C sensor, which, according to the manufacturer, enables faster autofocus and better night shots.

Both smartphones run Android 16 and Nothing OS 4.1. The manufacturer promises three Android updates and six years of security updates. New functions such as the Essential Key make it easier to save screenshots, voice recordings or notes, which are automatically organized in the so-called Essential Space.

Conclusion

With the Nothing Phone (4a) and the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, Nothing is launching two exciting mid-range smartphones on the market that further develop design and technology. While the Phone (4a) impresses above all with its transparent design and good value for money, the Pro model focuses on higher-quality materials, a more powerful display and more performance. The Nothing Phone (4a) starts at 349 euros, while the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro starts at 479 euros. The sales launch will be staggered from March 13, 2026.
