Nothing Phone (4a): Transparent design meets new Glyph interface
The Nothing Phone (4a) remains true to the brand’s design language and continues to feature a partially transparent back. However, the design of the Glyph interface is new. While its predecessor, the Nothing Phone (3a), used three curved LED strips, Nothing has now replaced these with seven square LED areas on the right-hand edge of the back. Each of these areas can be controlled individually.
The LEDs continue to serve as a visual notification center. Different light patterns for apps or contacts are set so that incoming messages, calls or system notifications can be discreetly signaled – a unique selling point in the increasingly uniform smartphone market. In a recently published video, Nothing provides detailed insights into the pink color variant. It is noticeable that the manufacturer has opted for a comparatively subtle color saturation. Neither the white plastic element under the transparent cover nor the aluminum of the camera module are colored. Instead, Nothing combines different surface textures to create visual depth. This mix of materials clearly sets the device apart from classic mid-range smartphones and strengthens the brand’s design identity.
Technology and features: mid-range with ambition
In addition to the eye-catching exterior, there are increasing indications of a solid technical basis. According to rumors, the Nothing Phone (4a) will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 – a chip that is positioned in the upper mid-range and should offer sufficient performance for gaming, multitasking and AI-supported functions.
A choice of 8 GB or 12 GB RAM and 128 GB to 256 GB internal memory are expected. The battery is said to have a capacity of 5,400 mAh and can be charged quickly with up to 50 watts. Compared to its predecessor, Nothing would therefore improve in terms of both battery size and charging performance.
The company also seems ambitious when it comes to the camera: A setup consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 3.5x zoom and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera is being discussed. The dedicated telephoto lens in particular would be a strong argument in this price range, as many competitor models rely on digital zoom solutions.
The official launch is scheduled for Thursday, March 5. Industry circles expect a starting price of at least 389 euros. This would make the Nothing Phone (4a) slightly more expensive than its predecessor, but still clearly positioned in the mid-range segment.
