Nubia Redmagic 7 Pro: gaming smartphone launches in Europe

Nubia officially announced the Redmagic 7 and Redmagic 7 Pro in February. The manufacturer’s current gaming smartphone could almost completely convince in our test. As the manufacturer now announces, the improved top model Nubia Redmagic 7 Pro including a dedicated gaming chip is now also launching in Europe.

Nubia Redmagic 7 Pro in detail

Mobile gamers already get their money’s worth with the Redmagic 7. However, the Nubia Redmagic 7 Pro offers that little bit more and will finally launch in Europe on April 27.

Nubia itself describes the top model as a “Pro Vision Gaming” smartphone and relies on brute performance. Qualcomm’s current flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip is accompanied by a dedicated gaming chip called Red Core 1 in the Pro model, which is supposed to improve the Snapdragon SoC’s efficiency in particular.

The Red Core 1 chip processes the audio content, RGB lighting and haptic feedback so that the Snapdragon can fully concentrate on the computing power of mobile games.

When it comes to the display, the Nubia Redmagic 7 Pro relies on a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. However, the touchscreen is supposed to be even more responsive than in the case of the Redmagic 7 thanks to a 960 Hz touch sampling rate.

First gaming smartphone with under-display camera

So, while the Redmagic 7 offers a frame rate of 165 Hz, it is slightly lower on the Pro model. According to the manufacturer, this is due to the under-display camera (UDC), which is a novelty in the gaming smartphone sector.

This enables the Redmagic 7 Pro to have an edge-to-edge design without a notch, hole or other cutouts. Thanks to “Multi-Drive ACE”, light transmission in the area above the UDC is supposed to be improved, while illumination and UDC areas are supposed to turn out even more permeable and better thanks to seven layers of highly-transparent materials.

With this, the smartphone realizes 100 percent DCI-P3 color space coverage, as well as wine maximum brightness of 600 nits. Thanks to the 2.0 Magic GPU, the Redmagic 7 Pro also benefits from a 60 percent improvement in frame rate stabilization.

5,000 mAh powerful battery

The necessary juice is provided in the Nubia Redmagic 7 Pro by a battery with a capacity of 5,000 mAh, which makes use of Qualcomm’s “Quick Charge 5 Technology” and can be charged quickly with 65 watts. The corresponding 65W GaN charger is also included in the scope of delivery.

Other features of the Redmagic 7 Pro include an improved ICE 9.0 cooling system including large Vapor Chamber cooling, dual shoulder triggers with 500 Hz touch sampling rate, and Redmagic Studio with wireless projection of the screen including 120 FPS and the ability to connect via HDMI and USB.

The 7 Pro measures 166.27mm x 77.1mm x 9.98mm and weighs 235 grams. In addition to the 16-megapixel UDC camera, the smartphone offers a triple-camera setup at the back, consisting of a 64-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. Furthermore, 16 GB of working memory and either 256 GB or 512 GB of system memory are offered.

REDMAGIC OS 5.0 is used as the operating system. There is also Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n/ac/ax, USB Type-C, a 3.5 mm jack, NFC, DTS sound and much more.
