OnePlus 10T: Manufacturer reveals details about the smartphone’s technology

The new OnePlus 10T is supposed to launch in fall 2022 as a cheaper alternative to the current flagship OnePlus 10 Pro and is supposed to be officially unveiled on August 3. In its own forum, the manufacturer has now at least already clarified the important details about the technology.

OnePlus 10T comes with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

Perhaps the most interesting innovation: The OnePlus 10T will use the latest high-end Qualcomm chip, namely the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It is not only supposed to be more energy-efficient than its predecessor in the OnePlus 10 Pro, but of course also a bit faster and not as hot.

OnePlus promises a 10% higher CPU performance with 30% less consumption. The graphics calculation of the installed Adreno GPU is also supposed to turn out better thanks to 10 percent higher clock rates, while AI calculations are four times faster.

The 10T combines the chip with up to 16 GB of fast LPDDR5 RAM, which has also been optimized for multitasking. This allows up to 35 open apps to be closed simultaneously for a faster, smoother and uninterrupted user experience. This is joined by up to 256GB of fast UFS 3.1 system memory.

Improved cooling in the 10T to combat overheating

The manufacturer is fighting the overheating problems that almost all smartphones equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 suffer from (including the 10 Pro) with a revised cooling system in the OnePlus 10T.

The manufacturer promises nothing less than the “largest and most advanced cooling system ever”, which has a cooling surface of over 37,000 mm². A new type of Cryo-Velocity Vapor-Chamber is used, which is supposed to be superior to the 10 Pro.

This effectively offers a significantly larger cooling surface than, for example, in the Black Shark 5 & Black Shark 5 Pro gaming smartphones, which rely on a similar Vapor-Chamber cooling system.

But the pure cooling performance is also said to have improved significantly. Among other things, because the 10T now relies on a 3D Graphite system, which is supposed to offer 50 percent better heat dissipation compared to normal Graphite.

Focus on gaming with special case

The fact that the OnePlus 10T drew inspiration from gaming smartphones like the new Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro and 6 is also evident in other places. Thus, the new “Glacier Mat Case” was introduced at the same time. A protective case with integrated cooling, which is supposed to cool the smartphone even better during extended gaming sessions.

A passive water cooling system works in it, so to speak, to evaporate moisture in the air and thus reduce temperatures. “In internal tests, the case was able to reduce the OnePlus 10T’s temperatures by up to 2.3 degrees Celsius while playing Genshin Impact for an hour at 60 Hz in an environment with a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius,” promises the manufacturer.

At the same time, the opinion is that the case looks pretty great. It’s in the eye of the beholder, of course.

Goodbye, Alert Slider

It is also known that the OnePlus 10T will have to do without the manufacturer’s iconic Altert slider. Until now, the smartphone could be quickly put into silent mode or vibrate mode.

This is (unfortunately) missing in the manufacturer’s new smartphone. As The Verge reports, this is said to have been omitted for space reasons according to OnePlus Chief Designer Hope Liu, in order to create “enough internal space for other components”. Liu talks about a charging technology with high wattages and a large battery capacity. According to unconfirmed rumors, the 10T should be able to charge quickly with up to 150 watts.

Price and availability: OnePlus 10T launch event

When and at what price the OnePlus 10T will launch is currently unclear. However, it is at least known that the manufacturer will officially present its new smartphone on August 03, 2022 in a launch event in New York. The focus will then also be on the new operating system OxygenOS 13.

According to rumors, a OnePlus 10 Ultra will follow this year in addition to the 10T, which is technically positioned at the top of the manufacturer’s smartphones. However, it is doubtful whether there will be any information about that on August 3.

It is also doubtful that the new smartphones will be as innovative as the debut of former OnePlus founder Carl Pei – the Nothing Phone 1 with an innovative Glyph interface, but otherwise rather mid-range features at a quite attractive price, has just been launched.
