OnePlus Keyboard: Manufacturer reveals first details

At the beginning of December, OnePlus announced work on a mechanical keyboard in cooperation with the keyboard specialist Keychron and wanted more details to follow. The OnePlus Keyboard has now become at least a little more concrete, but many details are still to come.

OnePlus Keyboard: Made of aluminum and with broad compatibility

The fact that OnePlus is working on a mechanical keyboard together with Keychron met with broad interest. Fully customizable, the keyboard is supposed to be based on community feedback on the new OnePlus Featuring platform.

Now, a few more details have been revealed, but the final design and concrete specifications are still under wraps. In return, the German Featuring page has been launched in the meantime, which holds out the prospect of mass production starting in March to April 2023.

Just like a forum post, it now provides further details. According to that, the OnePlus keyboard relies on a high-quality case made of CNC aluminum, which is supposed to offer a “flawless premium experience”. At the same time, the keyboard is supposed to turn out particularly robust and durable with a comparatively low weight.

The sleek design is topped off with a double seal, which is supposed to provide precise releases and smoother actuation. Specifically, damping is meant to reduce typing noise while maintaining an excellent typing experience, according to the manufacturer.

Adaptable and compatible with all systems

According to the manufacturer, great importance was also attached to a broad compatibility. Thus, the OnePlus Keyboard is supposed to be seamlessly compatible with Mac, Windows and even Linux and function as an all-in-one keyboard solution.

Furthermore, a “new keycap material in combination with the right switches” is promised, but without going into concrete detail. However, the mechanical keyboard switches will be easily replaceable (hot-swappable), while a flexible open-source firmware allows for easy customizations.

“Open-source firmware like QMK and VIA will allow real-time control without re-flashing the firmware. From customizing RGB lighting effects to key mapping, it’s never been easier to unlock the full potential of the keyboard,” the manufacturer said.

The OnePlus Keyboard is scheduled to enter a test phase in January 2023, before it will then be officially unveiled in February and start shipping in April 2023 at the latest.
