OnePlus keyboard: Manufacturer works with Keychron on mechanical keyboard

Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus teams up with keyboard maker Keychron to jointly launch a mechanical keyboard. The launch is scheduled for December 15, 2022.

After OnePlus just these days announced the development of two monitors named X 27 and E 24, we are in for another news on December 15. Together with the keyboard manufacturer Keychron, they are developing the first own mechanical OnePlus keyboard.

On the US Featuring page of OnePlus, they announced the presentation for mid-December, but the manufacturer does not provide pictures or additional information yet.

“OnePlus’ first mechanical keyboard is fully customizable and uses Keychron’s technology,” the website states succinctly.

Additional details, however, come from the OnePlus forum, where a product manager from the manufacturer reveals a bit more. Together with selected community members, he said, they discussed the keyboard’s desired features in November 2022, after which participants were sent a sample package of different keycaps and mechanical switches.

Users were able to reveal their preferences for keyboards

Within the open discussion, OnePlus had also asked participants about their preferences in keyboards and, according to its own statement, gained some exciting insights.

Among other things, chaos caused by many gadgets and electronic devices on the desk or wrist pain caused by keyboards that are too high came up. When it comes to the preferred mechanical switches, however, preferences diverge widely.

However, all participants agreed that most mechanical keyboards on the market were too expensive. The OnePlus keyboard will offer something new and exciting, but it will also be a wonderful solution that can help you become more productive (or a better gamer),” said the OnePlus manager in the forum.

So it certainly sounds exciting. There are many indications that we can probably expect a flat keyboard with low-profile switches, which will also be offered in different variants or even with hot-swappable switches.

And the cooperation with Keychron lets us hope for great things. For example, we use keyboards from the manufacturer ourselves, like the high-quality Keychron K8, which can be used wirelessly or wired and has hot-swappable mechanical switches.
