OnePlus Pad: Tablet premiere officially unveiled

There is exciting news from OnePlus. The Chinese smartphone expert announced a premiere at the Cloud 11 event. In addition to smartphones, the company also wants to manufacture tablets from now on. While the high-quality design of the OnePlus Pad is reminiscent of the manufacturer’s well-known virtues, the shapes are different. The tablet comes in a rather untypical format of 7:5.

Dispute with Nokia blocks OnePlus’ European business

During the tech event, OnePlus presented some exciting upcoming products. The highlight was undoubtedly the OnePlus Pad. However, despite the good-sounding technical data and the chic design, the whole thing also has a bland aftertaste. After all, we are taking a look at products whose release in our regions is still uncertain at this point.

So OnePlus is currently still in serious patent disputes with Nokia. Oppo and OnePlus have not been allowed to sell smartphones in Germany for almost six months now. Only when the two parties come to an agreement about the license fees, we can probably look forward to new tech highlights on store shelves. This also applies in particular to the OnePlus 11 launched in China in January 2023.

OnePlus Pad coming in 7:5 format

But since hope dies last, as we all know, let’s take a look at the first tablet from OnePlus. And the Chinese company has to be credited with one thing above all: Courage. After all, the tablet does not look like another iPad clone due to its unusual 7:5 format. The screen measures a proud 11.61 inches and offers a resolution of 2,800 x 2,000 pixels.

The rather large dimensions of 258.03 × 189.41 × 6.54 mm as well as the weight of 555 g are not surprising. A refresh rate of 144 Hz is supposed to ensure stutter-free, fast moving pictures with the LCD-based panel. Lower refresh rates of 60, 90 and 120 Hz can probably also be used so that the battery is not permanently challenged. HDR (Dolby Vision) and a brightness of up to 500 cd/m² promise good contrasts and vivid colors. The latter are supposed to offer an accuracy of Delta E < 2.

Android with its own coat of paint in the OnePlus Pad

At the heart of the OnePlus Pad is a MediaTek Dimensity 9000, and the SoC gets support from 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. In terms of storage, a 128 GB flash memory is supposed to be available. The battery with a capacity of 9,510 mAh points to a promising battery life.

The hardware equipment is rounded off with Bluetooth 5.3, WiFi 6, USB-C and a selfie camera (8 MP) as well as rear camera (13 MP). In terms of software, OnePlus relies on Android 13, which the manufacturer wants to adapt to the tablet size with small changes.

Price and availability

As mentioned at the beginning, it is currently still questionable if and when the OnePlus Pad will even hit store shelves in this country. The manufacturer has also not yet commented on the prices. Pre-orders of OnePlus’ tablet premiere should nevertheless be possible starting in April. By the way, the manufacturer has already launched a own product page for the OnePlus Pad for US customers. This is not yet the case in this country.
