The website OnlyFans, known for pornographic content by subscription, is planning a large-scale image change. Any pornographic content will be banned on the platform from 01 October 2021 – but nude photos and videos will probably still be allowed.
Image change at OnlyFans
The user-controlled subscription platform OnlyFans wants to shed its smut image, and it will do so as early as October. There are currently around 1.5 million content creators on the platform, which was launched in 2016. According to statement by the operators, an incredible $5 billion was paid out annually to content creators during this period.
Although fitness trainers, musicians or other influencers also use OnlyFans to market their content, the majority of content creators come from the pornography industry. Users pay a (monthly) subscription fee to access the creators’ content – the amount of the fee and the content are determined by the creators themselves.
Now OnlyFans wants to get away from the image of the smut platform as quickly as possible and announced an extensive restructuring with the ban of explicit sexual content on October 01, 2021. However, nude photos and videos are still allowed, as it says – just in the future without the depiction of sexual acts.
Pressure of the investors rises
The reason for the planned image change is, according to the provider’s statement, the increasing pressure from banks and investors. OnlyFans wants to continue to serve a healthy and growing community, which is why they have now decided to modernize the rules.
However, this change is not the first step in the new direction without pornographic content. A few months ago, they introduced a new app that provides quick access to content from some of the platform’s biggest content creators – but only those that don’t focus on sexually explicit content.
