The Opera browser has introduced an innovative feature called “Tab Commands”, which makes it possible to manage open tabs using natural language. This innovation aims to improve the user experience and facilitate multitasking on the web.
Important functions at a glance:
- Natural voice control: tabs can be organized, closed or grouped using simple voice commands.
- Integration with Aria: The AI Aria takes over the execution of tab commands directly in the browser.
- Data protection-oriented: Tab-related data remains on the device and is processed locally.
Efficient tab management through AI
With the new function, users can control their tabs using simple voice commands. For example, all open Wikipedia pages can be grouped together or YouTube tabs can be closed by entering corresponding instructions in the command line. This makes organization easier and reduces the need to manage tabs manually.
Integration of Aria: More than just a chatbot
Aria, Opera’s integrated AI, extends its functionality beyond classic chat and now acts as an active assistant for tab management. By entering commands in the command line, Aria performs actions such as closing, grouping or pinning tabs. This integration demonstrates Opera’s commitment to seamlessly integrating AI into the browser experience.
Data protection and local processing
Special attention is paid to the protection of privacy. When using Tab Commands, no tab-related data is sent to external servers; only the command entered is processed. The actual execution takes place locally on the user’s device, which guarantees a high level of data protection.

Availability and outlook
The Tab Commands function is currently available in the developer version of Opera One and can be activated via the command line using the key combination Ctrl + / (Windows) or Cmd + / (Mac). Alternatively, if more than five tabs are open, the “AI Tab Management” option is available in the context menu. This new feature underlines Opera’s commitment to developing innovative and user-friendly solutions for modern web browsing.
