OPPO Find N6: New folding technology should make the display crease on smartphones almost invisible

Foldable smartphones are considered one of the most exciting developments on the mobile market. They combine the portability of a classic smartphone with the screen size of a tablet. However, one problem has accompanied the devices for years: the visible crease in the display. With the OPPO Find N6, the manufacturer wants to tackle precisely this issue and presents a new folding technology that should make the display crease virtually disappear. This is made possible by a newly developed hinge, improved flexible glass and a reinforced device architecture.

  • Zero-feel-crease technology is designed to make the display crease almost invisible
  • Second-generation Titanium Flexion Hinge with new 3D manufacturing process
  • Auto-Smoothing Flex Glass for a permanently flat display
  • Up to 1 million folding cycles according to TÜV Rheinland certification

OPPO Find N6 uses new folding technology for a virtually wrinkle-free display

According to the manufacturer, the OPPO Find N6 represents an important step in the development of foldable smartphones. The focus here is on the so-called zero-feel-crease technology, which is intended to enable a significantly less visible crease in the display. The basis for this is a completely redesigned hinge construction in combination with a new flexible display material.

A key component is the second-generation Titanium Flexion Hinge. This hinge is manufactured using a special 3D liquid printing process. The process begins with a high-precision laser scan that digitally captures each hinge surface. Microscopically small photopolymer droplets are then applied using 3D printing to compensate for minimal unevenness.

After several printing and curing cycles, a particularly smooth surface is created. According to OPPO, this has reduced the height deviation of the hinge structure from 0.2 millimeters to around 0.05 millimeters – an improvement of around 75 percent compared to the previous industry standard.

The mechanical structure has also been revised. The hinge uses an extended water drop design, which increases the folding radius and reduces the load on the display. A so-called Clover Balance Pivot also ensures a more stable and even folding movement.

This combination of precise manufacturing and optimized mechanics forms the basis for a display that should appear significantly flatter when unfolded than many previous foldable devices.

Focus on durability and stability with the OPPO Find N6

In addition to the initial flatness, long-term stability also plays an important role in foldable smartphones. A common problem is material creep, where the inner layers of a display shift slightly over time and the crease becomes more visible.

In the OPPO Find N6, the newly developed Auto-Smoothing Flex Glass is designed to counteract this effect. According to the manufacturer, this flexible glass is 50 percent thicker than conventional ultra-thin glass (UTG) and significantly improves the shape retention of the display. This is said to increase resistance to deformation by 338 percent.

Together with the new hinge, the material acts like a kind of mechanical spring. When the device is opened, the elasticity of the glass helps to return the display to the flattest possible shape. This should reduce permanent deformation.

According to the manufacturer, independent tests also confirm improvements. TÜV Rheinland certifies that the device reduces long-term wrinkling by up to 82 percent compared to the previous model. In addition, the device was tested with a largely flat display after 600,000 folds.

OPPO also relies on robust materials for durability. The hinge uses grade 5 titanium alloy and ultra-high-strength steel with 2,200 MPa. The frame is made of 7000 series aluminum, which is also used in the aerospace industry.

Additional protection is provided by nanocrystal glass on the outside, which is said to offer around 20 percent greater drop resistance. The design is complemented by several water resistance certifications (IP56, IP58 and IP59).

Conclusion

With the OPPO Find N6, the manufacturer is trying to further reduce one of the biggest problems of foldable smartphones: the visible display crease. New hinge technology, flexible special glass and robust materials should ensure that the display remains as flat as possible even after many folds. The combination of zero-feel-crease technology, durable construction and improved materials shows just how much foldable smartphones are developing technologically. Details on price and market launch have not yet been officially confirmed.
