Oppo Reno8 Lite: Mid-range smartphone with LED rings launches for 389 euros

With the Oppo Reno8 Lite, the manufacturer has introduced a new mid-range smartphone. Besides an AMOLED display and a 64-megapixel triple camera, the device has an exciting unique selling point. LED rings around the camera modules serve as notification lights on the smartphone.

From a purely technical point of view, the new Oppo Reno8 Lite, which the manufacturer has now unveiled, is quite well positioned. Oppo relies on the modern octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor here, which combines two Cortex-A78 cores with a clock speed of 2.2 GHz each with six additional Cortex-A55 cores with 1.7 GHz.

The SoC is supported by 8 gigabytes of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.2 storage, the latter of which can also be expanded using a microSD card. In addition, 5 GB can be loaded from the system memory into the working memory to improve the performance. Thus, the Reno8 Lite is also 5G-capable, supports WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 5.1.

Oppo also installs a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels), but it only offers a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The smartphone is unlocked with the help of a fingerprint sensor or via facial recognition.

Sound-wise, the smartphone also wants to convince. “Real HD Sound 3.0 automatically optimizes your listening experience while the Smart Power Amplifier takes care of better sound quality,” writes the manufacturer. Also exciting: with the help of Air Gestures, you control your smartphone without touching the screen.

Camera module with exciting features

The Oppo Reno8 Lite makes a comeback with the notification LED, which displays app notifications and incoming calls in color and informs about a low battery level. However, this is not found on the front of the smartphone.

Instead, LED light rings frame the two camera modules on the back. Oppo calls the whole thing Dual Orbit Lights. They glow or blink in four different shades of blue and thus represent different system notifications. The light rings can also be deactivated if desired.

On the rear, the Reno8 Lite relies on a triple camera setup. It is composed of its main camera with a resolution of 64 megapixels and a light-strong aperture of f/1.7, as well as two 2-MP sensors for macro shots and depth information. On the front, the smartphone relies on a 16-megapixel selfie camera that is housed in a punch hole in the upper left corner (aperture: f/2.4).

The Oppo Reno8 Lite ships with ColorOS 12 based on Android 11. It has a 4,500 mAh battery that is charged with a maximum of 33 watts via USB Type-C. The battery is supposed to be charged in just under an hour. The battery is supposed to be fully charged in just under an hour.

A 3.5 mm jack input is also offered on the bottom of the 173 gram device. As for the colors, there is a choice between Cosmic Black and Rainbow Spectrum. The latter is supposed to shimmer accordingly depending on the incidence of light and attract attention with color gradients. Interestingly, the colorful model is a bit wider than the black variant with 7.55 mm. The latter has a depth of 7.49 mm. Both variants are also protected against water splashes according to IPX4.

Price and availability

Although the Oppo Reno8 Lite is not yet listed on the manufacturer’s website, the smartphone is already available in stores. The product website is already online, though. Mail-order giant Amazon already lists the black model at a price of 389.00 Euros. With the help of a discount coupon, you can also currently save another 30 Euros. The retailer states June 5, 2022 as the release date.
