Orbea Gain: premium class e-race bike unveiled

The range of available e-bikes continues to grow. There are now not only classic city bikes with electric support. Mountain bikes and even folding bikes now offer an electric motor. The Orbea Gain, in turn, is preparing to become a powerful road bike with an electric motor.

Orbea Gain comes in different versions

The amazement was certainly not bad when bike manufacturer Orbea presented its upcoming highlights for the year 2023. With the Orbea Gain, strictly speaking, it is not just a model. Rather, the expert for sporty bikes wants to launch its motorized e-bike in several versions. In terms of price and equipment, the Gain M31E 1X 2023 is the base model. The top model is the Gain M10i 2023, and one of the most important differences is probably the material.

The battery is hidden in the featherweight frame.

While the entry-level version comes with an aluminum frame, the top model comes with a carbon frame. The Urtopia Carbon One (test) proves just how advantageous this can be for an e-bike. In particular, the feather-light weight here not only ensures higher speed, but also greater user comfort for the rider. At just 11.5 kg, the bike with carbon is then again significantly lighter than the Carbon One, which weighs 14 kg.

Motor from Mahle and gears from Shimano

In the top model, there is not only a carbon frame, but also high-end components. First, there is the electric motor, which comes from the well-known manufacturer Mahle. The Mahle X20 should provide thanks to a torque of 55 Nm for proper thrust. Although the motorization in the cheaper models also comes from Mahle, “only” an X35+ is used here, which offers 40 Nm.

Orbea runs the cables from the gears and brakes invisibly through the frame.

The carbon model also has the edge when it comes to the battery. So this is to offer a whopping 350 Wh capacity, which is 100 Wh more than the counterpart made of aluminum. Since these are genuine sports e-bikes, the manufacturer also specifies the range to the Orbea Gain not in classic meters, but altitude meters. While the base model is supposed to be able to climb 1,600 meters in altitude, the manufacturer promises a proud 4,000 meters in altitude for the top model.

Thanks to its tires, which are up to 35 mm thick, you should be able to ride safely even far from perfectly paved roads.

Although it is a true racing bike, the Orbea Gain promises stability and safety even away from perfectly paved roads. For this you should be able to optionally thicker tires up to 35 mm mounted. Maximum 35 mm are probably possible. Hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano provide safety. The renowned manufacturer also donates the 12-speed circuit of the type Dura-Ace R9200.

Prices start at just under 6,600 euros

The Orbea Gain is available in different color versions, so that there should be something for every taste. Who wants to enter the world of the Orbea Gain, must take at least 6,599 euros in the hand. For this, there is the basic model Gain M31E 1X 2023 with aluminum frame. For a proud 9,999 euros, there is again the top model in the form of the Gain M10i 2023 with carbon frame. On the official website of the manufacturer, you can put together your own personal racing bike with electric motor.
