With “Sports Live”, Signify is expanding the entertainment functions of Philips Hue and WiZ with a new real-time synchronization for soccer broadcasts. The feature reacts directly to live match data and creates lighting effects to match goals, cards or scores. This should make the home cinema experience much more immersive and bring the atmosphere in the living room closer to that of a real stadium. The launch coincides with the world’s biggest soccer tournament in summer 2026 and is aimed at users of smart lighting systems who want to experience sports broadcasts more intensively.

  • Real-time lighting effects respond to goals, cards and match progression
  • Supports Philips Hue and WiZ without additional synchronization hardware
  • Customizable team colors and automatic synchronization during broadcast delays
  • Available during the 2026 major soccer tournament

Philips Hue Sports Live brings real-time action directly into the living room

With “Sports Live”, Signify is expanding the classic entertainment functions of Philips Hue and WiZ to include direct live data integration. Unlike previous TV synchronization solutions, the system does not analyze the TV’s image signal, but uses an integrated live sports data API. This means that the lamps and lights react immediately to important events in the game.

If a goal is scored or the referee shows a yellow or red card, the system automatically activates appropriate lighting animations. The lighting can, for example, light up in the colors of the respective team or create dynamic effects to increase the tension in the room. The synchronization also remains active during quieter phases of the game. In the event of a draw, for example, neutral white tones are used, while the colors of the leading team can reflect the current score.

Another practical feature is the consideration of typical streaming and TV delays. Users can customize time sequences so that the lighting effects match the transmission as closely as possible. If playback is paused, the lighting synchronization also stops automatically. After resuming, the system synchronizes itself again with the current live data.

The setup is deliberately kept simple. After selecting the favorite team, compatible lamps are connected to “Sports Live”. The system then synchronizes automatically. The solution could therefore establish itself as an interesting alternative to classic Ambilight or HDMI-based lighting systems, particularly in the field of smart entertainment.

WiZ and Philips Hue focus on flexible smart home integration

Technically, the two supported platforms continue to differ significantly from one another. Philips Hue uses the familiar Hue Bridge as the central control unit. This allows several rooms and larger lighting installations to be linked together. Anyone already using an extensive Hue setup can flexibly expand the experience and extend it to different areas of the home.

WiZ, on the other hand, takes a simpler approach without additional bridge hardware. The lamps communicate directly via the existing Wi-Fi network and are controlled via the WiZ Connected app. This makes the system particularly suitable for users who want to get started with smart lighting without additional devices. At the same time, WiZ supports an unlimited number of compatible lamps and luminaires.

It is also interesting to note that “Sports Live” not only works with classic WiZ products, but also with Philips Smart LED and Philips Smart Lighting (connected by WiZ). This significantly expands the compatible ecosystem.

The focus is clearly on the entertainment concept. Signify is positioning “Sports Live” as an extension of the existing TV synchronization and wants to further expand the connection between sports broadcasts and smart lighting. The feature could provide additional dynamics in the home cinema, particularly during major soccer tournaments, and bring the classic public viewing atmosphere into the living room, at least in part.

Conclusion

With “Sports Live”, Philips Hue and WiZ are launching an exciting extension for smart home and entertainment fans. The combination of real-time match data and dynamic lighting effects provides a much more intense soccer experience at home. The easy setup, flexible synchronization and support for both platforms make the feature particularly interesting. “Sports Live” will be launched in time for the biggest soccer tournament of 2026 and will be available for a limited period.
