Philips Momentum 27M1F5500P and 27M1F5800: Two new gaming monitors

With the Philips Momentum 27M1F5500P and 27M1F5800, the manufacturer has introduced two new premium monitors in its gaming series. Both have a screen diagonal of 27 inches and are equipped with Nano IPS panels. There are differences in terms of resolution and refresh rate.

The two new gaming monitors Philips Momentum 27M1F5500P and 27M1F5800 each rely on a 27-inch Nano IPS panel and come with AMD Freesync Premium Pro support for crisp, sharp images. Furthermore, both displays offer an sRGB color space coverage of Delta E<2 and have a VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification, which should achieve a brightness of 600 nits.

Strangely, however, the manufacturer only mentions a brightness of 450 cd/m² in the announcement. After all, the gray-to-grey response time is under one millisecond, while the DCI-P3 color space is covered by 98 percent.

Ultra-Wide Color technology also enhances colors for a more brilliant picture. Philips’ exclusive SmartContrast feature also analyzes content in real time and automatically adjusts colors and backlight intensity to increase contrast. To be easy on the eyes, both monitors also rely on a LowBlue mode and Flicker-Free technology.

Differences in resolution and frame rate

While the Philips Momentum 27M1F5500P and 27M1F5800 gaming monitors share many specifications and are similar in terms of design, there are some serious differences between the models.

In the case of the 27M1F5500P, the manufacturer relies on a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and a frame rate of a whopping 240 Hz. However, this is only achieved via one of the two available DisplayPort 1.4 ports. A maximum of 144 Hz is “only” possible via HDMI 2.0.

The Philips Momentum 27M1F5800 on the other hand offers a 4K UHD resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. In addition, it already has the more modern HDMI 2.1 connection and thus also allows a display of 4K at 120 Hz on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles. In addition to two HDMI 2.1 ports, two DP 1.4 ports are also available here.

Thanks to MultiView, two devices can be connected to the monitor and displayed simultaneously. In addition, the displays have integrated stereo speakers. In addition, both monitors have four USB 3.2 Type-A ports, a USB Type-B port and a 3.5 mm jack output. In terms of ergonomics, both Philips Momentum gaming monitors are height adjustable (up to 130 mm), tiltable and have a pivot function.

Prices and Availability

The 27-inch Philips Momentum 27M1F5500P and 27M1F5800 gaming monitors are scheduled to make their way to German retailers in June 2022. The 27M1F5500P has a recommended retail price of 530 British pounds (the equivalent of about 622 euros), while the 27M1F5800 is available for 630 pounds (about 740 euros).
