PlayStation 5: Sony announces date, price and launch title

After Microsoft already announced the official prices as well as release of its two upcoming consoles last week, Sony now followed up with a showcase yesterday. The Japanese company wants to sell its two versions of the PS5 as early as November 12. But there is a decisive difference to its competitor Microsoft. Sony’s next-generation console will be launched in stages. The first countries to start on November 12 are the USA, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The rest of the world will be watching the ropes for the time being. For one week at least. Finally, the PS5 should be available in the rest of the world from November 19.

Why staggered release?

There are many speculations why Sony does not offer its two versions of the PS5 for sale globally at once. Like so many other companies, the Japanese are not spared the economic effects of the Corona crisis. As a result, it was only recently speculated that there have been noticeable delays in the production of next-gen consoles. However, the company recently denied these rumors. Nevertheless, a strange aftertaste remains. After all, a staggered release seems very old-fashioned in this day and age. In addition, one must not forget that the lead of the Xbox Series X or S is growing.

The prices

With the price of the top model with 4K Blu-Ray drive Sony equals Microsoft. Both for the PlayStation 5 in the Disk Edition and for Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, 499.99 Euros are charged. In addition to the premium model, both companies offer a slightly slimmed-down version. In contrast to the Xbox Series S, the PlayStation 5 in the Digital Edition offers no less performance than its big sister. It merely comes without a suitable drive. Otherwise the specs are the same as those of the disk version. Accordingly you don’t save as much money with Sony’s version without a drive as with the Series S, which comes with slimmed down hardware. Sony’s slimmer PS5 is said to cost 399.99 Euro. In contrast to it Microsoft for the Xbox Series S calls 299.99 euro. Who has interest in the PS5, can try from today, 17 September, its luck with a pre-order. Thus one can pre-order the PS5 five days earlier than Microsoft’s Next-Gen consoles.
