Just in time for the start of gamescom 2022, Sony has confirmed the PlayStation VR2 release. The new VR glasses for PlayStation 5 will therefore not be released this year.
PlayStation VR2 release will be in early 2023
Bit by bit, Sony is feeding us new information about the console VR headset PlayStation VR2, which was officially unveiled in early 2022 along with the title Horizon Call of the Mountain.
As the manufacturer has now announced on all social networks, the PlayStation VR2 will be released in early 2023. Thus, there is no concrete date for the PSVR2 launch yet, however, the release period coincides with the current rumors, which last spoke of the first quarter of 2022.
Sony has not announced any new details, though. But at least one thing is certain: Production is already running at full speed. It is known that the PSVR2 will rely on new controllers. Like the PS5 controller, they feature adaptive triggers, among other things, which have a noticeable resistance when pressed, depending on the situation.
About a month ago, Sony unveiled, among other things, the streaming feature and AR passthrough view, which makes the environment visible when the VR headset is on. Thanks to the streaming feature, you can also record your movements and reactions and quickly share them with other players on the Internet.
Also offered is a VR mode for the PSVR2 that lets you enjoy VR game content in a virtual environment in a 360-degree view. This content is presented in HDR video format with a resolution of 4000 x 2040 pixels (at 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye) and a frame rate of 90 Hz or 120 Hz.
At the same time, Sony had promised more news, “including the release date and additional games for this platform”. So now we already know the release date, so what’s missing now are the games. But gamescom 2022 is just getting underway.
