The electric compact SUV Porsche E-Macan is coming later. Due to software problems, production of the E-SUV will no longer start in 2023 as planned. Now the new model is not expected until 2024.
Porsche E-Macan comes later
Actually, the Porsche E-Macan should already expand the model range of the compact SUV of the traditional manufacturer from Stuttgart in the coming year, but nothing will come of it. As the online magazine Autocar UK reports, there are apparently problems with VW’s Cariad software platform.
The electric Macan, along with Audi, is supposed to use Cariad’s new E3 1.2 software platform, but VW Group’s software is delayed, which also pushes back the E-Macan’s launch.
In a stock market prospectus from last month, Porsche had already confirmed the use of the E3 1.2 platform for the E-Macan. However, delays in Cariad software could also push back the introduction of other all-electric vehicles within the VW Group.
The E-Macan marks the manufacturer’s third all-electric vehicle after the Cross Turismo and Porsche Taycan. The latter just received an extensive software update with numerous new features in July.
According to a report in Automobilwoche, the electric Macan will be produced in Leipzig. Porsche’s head of production, Albrecht Reimold, wants to have similar numbers produced as for the combustion engine model of the compact SUV – which equates to around 80,000 cars a year.
