Porsche is equipping the Taycan with new features for the new 2022 model year starting in September. In addition to Android Auto and additional connectivity, the sports car gets increased range and comes in additional colors.
Android Auto for the Porsche Taycan
Porsche’s Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo models get the new PCM 6.0 infotainment system, which was last seen on the 911, Cayenne and Panamera. The interface was already based on the sixth version, and the hardware is finally being updated with the new model. In addition to Apple CarPlay (wireless), Android Auto is finally supported via cable.
With the update, the main menu in the Porsche models has five entries for home screen, navigation, media, phone and car. The navigation system is said to work significantly faster and can also boast a new online search (optionally also via Google), the “Voice Pilot” voice control and additional functions such as the display of calendar appointments.
The Remote Park Assist update also turns out to be exciting. In the future, the Taycan can be remotely controlled from close range using a smartphone, for example to navigate out of tight parking spaces. The car measures the parking space via the ultrasonic sensors and camera systems and activates the remote control within the corresponding Porsche Connect app.
25 km more range
Porsche has also been able to optimize the range of the engine in the 2022 model year of the Taycan. In practice, this should allow for around 25 km more, and that’s despite the fact that no homologation update has taken place. In return, the front electric motor can be almost completely deactivated in the two driving modes “Normal” and “Range” in all-wheel drive mode, which reduces drag losses.
Only when the additional power is requested again or when the driving mode is changed should the additional electric motor start working and thus be activated within milliseconds. Thermal management and charging functions have also been improved, according to Porsche.
There are a total of 17 standard colors to choose from for the Porsche Taycan, with additional variants available in the “Colors by Choice” and “Colors by Choice Plus” options, which bring the range to 63 variants. Fans of classic Porsche models in particular get their money’s worth here, with the automaker offering color schemes such as Moonlightbluemetallic, Acid Green, Riviera Blue or Viola Metallic.
Prices and availability
In terms of price, nothing changes for end customers compared to the 2021 model. Four Taycan and four Taycan Cross Turismo models each are available to choose from. Prices start at 85,543 euros for the Porsche Taycan with 476 hp, while the top model Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo (761 hp) costs 187,764 euros. The new models will go on sale in September 2021.
