Porsche Taycan upgrade reduces charging time to 5 hours

Back in July, Porsche equipped its Taycan electric sports car with a comprehensive software update. Now comes another Porsche Taycan upgrade that drastically reduces charging time.

A new AC on-board charger significantly reduces the charging time of the Taycan, according to the manufacturer. The automaker has now officially announced the new Porsche Taycan upgrade, and the new charger is said to actually double the charging power, which – conversely – halves the charging time.

The upgrade is offered for all current Taycan models. The charger charges with up to 19.2 kW when using a compatible charger. With the Performance variant, a full charge is thus possible in under five hours (compared with 9.5 hours as before). The Performance Battery Plus charges from 0 to 100 percent in 5.3 hours – compared with 10.5 hours with the previous charger. A considerable leap.

The new kit, part number 9J1.044.900.31, can be easily installed at a Porsche Service Center, shares the automaker. The kit is priced at $1,850.15, or about 1,710 euros. Approximately 12 hours of labor are required to complete it. Details on the exact euro prices, however, the manufacturer has not yet announced.

To benefit from the increased charging power at home, the Porsche Mobile Connect charger, which costs around 1,100 euros, and a correspondingly fast power outlet are required.

Here, the new charging kit finds space in the Porsche Taycan Upgrade in the front area of the trunk and completely replaces the previous model. The 2020 model of the Taycan in particular benefits additionally, because the new kit also includes support for the manufacturer’s Plug & Charge technology.
