Porsche upgrades Stuttgart main plant with 500 million euros

For the long-established Porsche company, too, the future is all about electromobility. This became clear in the noble brand’s latest move. According to a media report, the Stuttgart-based company has invested almost 500 million euros in its main plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. All of this is to serve the production of the promising Porsche 718.

Huge investment

Porsche has already made it clear with its Taycan that a sports car does not need an internal combustion engine. The vehicle, which can produce up to 761 hp, is very popular with fans of electromobility – provided they have the necessary “small change”. So it’s hardly surprising that the carmaker wants to focus more on the production of electric cars in the future. The plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen is primarily intended for this purpose. However, it is not the Taycan that is to come off the production line there. The main plant is to serve for the production of the reincarnation of the iconic Porsche 718 and will be expanded accordingly.

The electric Porsche 718 is due in 2023

The sports car manufacturer’s roadmap sounds ambitious. For example, at least two-thirds of all Porsches sold are to be equipped with an electric motor as early as 2030. To achieve this goal, the company’s portfolio of e-sports cars is naturally set to expand. In addition to the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo, Porsche wants to resurrect its 718 as an electric version as early as next year. This iconic vehicle is then to be joined by an e-SUV in the form of the Macan equipped with an electric motor.

From 0 to 100 in 2.4 seconds

The Porsche 718 will not only be a costly affair, but certainly a powerful one as well. For example, the runabout equipped with all-wheel drive should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h within 2.4 seconds. The maximum speed, in turn, is said to be 300 km/h. To ensure that the driving fun doesn’t come to an end too quickly in view of the brute power, the Stuttgart-based carmaker provides a battery with a capacity of 82 kWh.
