Postbank has been suffering from disruptions in online banking for days now

Anyone who has a bank account with Postbank may also have noticed that the online banking feature is currently suffering from one malfunction or another. For example, complaints have been piling up for days from customers who simply cannot access their online accounts.

No online banking possible

According to initial findings, a DNS problem is said to be responsible for the disruptions in Postbank’s online banking. But how does this manifest itself in detail? The effects can be different, but always affect the disposal of one’s own bank account. Some even report that the entire Postbank website was temporarily unavailable. After the customer complaints accumulated, the service of “allestörungen.de” became aware.

If you take a look at the user comments there, the extent of the DNS problem becomes clear. According to them, the problems have been going on for days. An even clearer picture emerges on Twitter. Here you can read tweets from customers who have been reporting such problems for weeks. Surprisingly, the problems, which have lasted for several weeks, are said to have occurred mainly with Postbank customers who wanted to access the website and online banking services outside Germany.

Customer service was unavailable

Who do you turn to if you have problems with online banking? To the bank itself, of course. But even this was reportedly not possible for many customers. Finally, some report that one could not reach the customer service of Postbank without further ado. Accordingly, it was not even possible to send a request for a solution to the problem. Of course, this can always happen in the age of digitalization. But it is important that the companies concerned communicate such problems openly. It is precisely the concealment on the part of Postbank that is criticized by the vast majority of bank customers.

Postbank provided more detailed information about the problem to our colleagues at heise online. In particular, problems prevail with the

“Homepage (www.postbank.de) or online banking”

The bank has also meanwhile commented on the instability of its Internet presence on Twitter. There, Postbank wrote

“that some customers currently can not use their online banking.”

In order to calm its clientele, the credit institute stresses however also immediately that one strives in the IT department at present to remove the problem as fast as possible. Furthermore, Postbank clarifies:

“The security of accounts or data is not affected by this”

Wait and see

Customers who blink at Postbank’s proposed solutions to the problem are unlikely to feel like laughing. After all, these are anything but helpful. Namely, those who do not want to resort to procedures such as telephone banking should, mutatis mutandis, simply bring along a little more time to use the online services. Thus the post office bank asks affected customers for it

“to call up the page or the application again a little later”.

Since some customers have already been complaining for weeks about not being able to access banking functions, the question is how many days to wait. It’s not really helpful.

Customers find out cause

Furthermore, Postbank has suggested that one should, for example, clear the browser history to ensure improvement. The only thing that would have caused even more sour grapes among customers would have been to restart the computer. Some resourceful Postbank customers have already found the apparent cause of the problem. It seems that the bank simply has a big problem with its Domain Name System (DNS). However, we assume that Postbank’s IT department will quickly get this problem under control again.
