Over 1 million iSCSI 4K random read IOPS with ultra-low latency is what the QNAP Dual-CPU TDS-h2489FU is supposed to offer, thanks to the built-in Intel Xeon Silver 4300 processors with 16 or 32 cores, as well as 24 U.2 NVMe Gen 4 x4 SSD bays. There are also two 25GbE SFP28 ports, four 2.5GbE RJ45 LAN ports and two PCIe Gen 4 slots.

The operating system is the ZFS-based QuTS hero, which provides powerful data reduction and SSD optimization tools to improve the performance of all-flash investments for HPC, virtualization, file servers, and 4K/8K multimedia applications.

The dual-processor TDS-h2489FU provides multiplied core performance and enables up to 1TB of DDR4 ECC memory with 8-channel modules and 32 Long-DIMM slots to meet the compute, networking and storage needs of data center and enterprise applications.

In addition, the 2U rackmount case offers 24 drive bays for U.2 NVMe Gen 4 x4 SSDs to achieve optimal application response times. With pre-installed 25GbE connectivity and PCIe expansion for 100GbE ultra-high-speed networking, the TDS-h2489FU fully exploits the potential of all-flash storage to meet even the most demanding IT challenges.

Hassle-free installation of data center SSDs

The TDS-h2489FU features two M.2 PCIe Gen 3/SATA 6Gbps slots, which enable the installation of data center SSDs (such as Intel Optane SSD) to boost ZIL performance or implement Coral M.2 accelerators for AI-accelerated image recognition.

Two PCIe Gen 4 slots (one slot is equipped with a dual-port 25GbE NIC) are included for expanding NAS core functionality, such as adding more high-speed network interface cards, QM2 cards for adding M.2 SSDs and 2.5GbE/10GbE ports, Fibre Channel cards for SAN storage, and storage expansion cards for connecting QNAP SAS/SATA expansion enclosures to realize petabyte-scale storage capacity.

QNAP’s QDA-UMP4 adapter can be used to install low-cost M.2 SSDs in U.2 drive bays, providing flexible as well as cost-effective storage implementation to optimize data-intensive applications.

Many features in the operating system

With the ZFS-based QuTS hero, the QNAP Dual-CPU TDS-h2489FU is designed for data integrity with self-healing. Data reduction significantly reduces the overall storage footprint – especially helpful for increasing SSD storage efficiency when generating highly repetitive data or many small files. Additional SSD optimization features include write coalescing, TRIM and pool overprovisioning to achieve the highest performance and lifetime of SSD investments.

QuTS hero supports virtually unlimited snapshots as well as versioning for enhanced data protection and prevents multiple SSDs from failing simultaneously to improve overall system reliability.

Also included is a convenient app center that hosts various install-on-demand apps to further extend the TDS-h2489FU’s features. These include virtual machine and container hosting, VM backup facilitation and more.

Offered in five different variants, the QNAP Dual-CPU TDS-h2489FU is available in:

  • TDS-h2489FU-4309Y-64G: Dual Intel Xeon Silver 4309Y processors for up to 16 cores/32 threads, Turbo Boost up to 3.6 GHz, 64 GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM memory (8 x 8 GB)
  • TDS-h2489FU-4314-128G: Dual Intel Xeon Silver 4314 processors for up to 32 cores/64 threads, Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz, 128 GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM memory (8 x 16 GB)
  • TDS-h2489FU-4314-256G: Dual Intel Xeon Silver 4314 processors for up to 32 cores/64 threads, Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz, 256 GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM memory (8 x 32 GB)
  • TDS-h2489FU-4314-512G (on demand): Dual Intel Xeon Silver 4314 processors for up to 32 cores/64 threads, Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz, 512 GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM memory (16 x 32 GB)
  • TDS-h2489FU-4314-1TB (on demand): Dual Intel Xeon Silver 4314 processors for up to 32 cores/64 threads, Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz, 1 TB DDR4 ECC RDIMM memory (32 x 32 GB)

It is currently unclear when the QNAP flagship models will be available in stores. First retailers, including Alternate and Cyberport, already list the QNAP dual-CPU TDS-h2489FU. The price starts at 14,799.00 Euros.
