Qualcomm had already unveiled its own flagship smartphone under the name “Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders” in July. The entry into the smartphone market can apparently be seen especially in terms of the camera setup, as can be seen in a new test from DxOMark.
Qualcomm Snapdragon smartphone among the best camera smartphones
The San Diego-based company, usually known for its SoC chips, is getting into the smartphone business itself with the 5G Worldphone for “Snapdragon Insiders.” The smartphone manufactured by ASUS comes up with some technical goodies and wants to offer global 5G reception thanks to mmWave antennas as well as a high-quality Snapdragon sound technology in combination with the True Wireless ANC headset, among other things.
However, not only the 144 Hz OLED display of the Snapdragon 888 flagship wants to convince, but also the camera setup seems to be impressive, as at least the new test of the experts from DxOMark shows. There, the Snapdragon smartphone shoots into the top 5 right away.
With 133 total points, the Android device thus puts Apple’s iPhone 12 generation in its place, among others, and positions itself just behind the Huawei Mate 40 Pro (136 points). The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is tied with the Snapdragon device in 5th place, topped by the Huawei P50 Pro with 146 total points.
The cameras of the Snapdragon smartphone
This comes as quite a surprise due to the camera specs on offer. Snapdragon and ASUS rely on a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor for the main camera. A 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom are also used.
The Snapdragon device apparently also achieves the top rates via advanced image processing algorithms, which achieve strong results especially in HDR shots and when zooming. Especially autofocus, colors and texture of the pictures convinced the testers.
Only the quality in the low-light range and in difficult scenarios with high contrast are criticized. With a value of 111 in video recordings, the device apparently does a really good job even in 4K recordings. You can read the full test directly at DxOMark.
Price and availability
However, the 5G Worldphone from Qualcomm and ASUS does not turn out to be really cheap. The manufacturer’s RRP is 1,299.00 Euros – after all, the Master & Dynamic MW08-TWS headphones, which cost around 326 Euros, are already included. The package also includes a 65-watt Quick Charge adapter, a USB cable and a bumper case.
The smartphone is supposed to be available in the ASUS eShop from August 2021 in some countries, including Germany. However, the device is not yet available. The device is supposed to be widely available in the fall.
