Meta and EssilorLuxottica have unveiled two new smart glasses, Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Ray-Ban Meta Scriber Optics, which have been specially designed for use with corrective lenses for the first time. The Group is thus addressing one of the biggest obstacles to the widespread acceptance of its smart glasses: Billions of people worldwide are dependent on visual aids – and it is precisely for this target group that previous models were only suitable to a limited extent.
Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer and Scriber: slimmer design for all-day comfort
The two new models belong to the newly introduced “Optics Styles” product category and are clearly distinguishable from each other visually. The Blayzer has a rectangular, slightly more angular design, reminiscent of the classic Wayfarer, and is available in Standard and Large sizes. The Scriber, on the other hand, has a rounder shape and is initially only available in one size.
According to Meta, both models are slimmer than previous Ray-Ban Meta glasses such as the Wayfarer, Headliner or Skyler. Also new are the so-called overstretch hinges, which offer an additional opening angle of 10 degrees. There are also interchangeable nose pads and temple tips that can be adjusted by the optician – all measures designed to significantly improve all-day comfort.
In terms of weight, however, there are only minimal differences to the existing models: The standard size of the new glasses weighs around 49 grams, while the previous Gen 2 models are around 51 grams.
Familiar hardware with an extra microphone
Technically, Blayzer and Scriber are based on the tried-and-tested hardware of the second generation of Ray-Ban Meta glasses. This means: a 12-megapixel camera, open-ear speakers, around 8 hours of battery life, integrated Meta AI and computer vision. The only hardware difference: the new models have an additional, sixth microphone in the nose pad area. According to FCC documents, they also support Wi-Fi 6 in the UNII-4 band – an upgrade over the previous generation.
The Optics models are compatible with a wide range of prescription lenses, including single vision lenses, progressive lenses and transition lenses. Meta claims to support “almost all prescriptions”, with the exact diopter range reported to be -6.00 to +4.00.

New AI functions: Nutrition tracking and WhatsApp integration
In addition to the new models, Meta has also announced new software features for the entire smart glasses portfolio. Particularly exciting: AI-supported nutrition tracking. In future, users will be able to record meals by voice command or photo, whereupon Meta AI will automatically extract and log nutritional information. Personalized nutrition tips will be generated based on this data. This feature will initially be launched in the USA.
Another new feature is the integration of WhatsApp functions. Incoming messages can be summarized or searched for using a voice command – for example, what a contact has suggested for dinner. According to Meta, these interactions are processed directly on the device and remain end-to-end encrypted. The WhatsApp features will initially be activated for beta testers.
Live translation will be expanded to 20 languages
The existing live translation function for Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta eyewear will be expanded to a total of 20 languages from the summer. New additions include Mandarin, Korean, Japanese and Arabic. Previously, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese were available. At the same time, Meta is expanding into new markets such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore and several South American countries.
Price and availability of the Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer and Scriber
The new Optics models are now available for pre-order in the USA. The starting price is 499 US dollars (in Germany from 469 euros according to Meta’s webstore). Delivery and the start of sales via opticians is scheduled for April 14 – both in the USA and in “selected international markets”. This means that the new models are priced significantly higher than the first generation (from 329 euros) and slightly higher than the second generation (from 419 euros).
At the same time, Meta is launching new color combinations for the existing Ray-Ban Meta models and the Oakley Meta sports glasses. For the Ray-Ban Meta collection, there are three limited-time color variants for spring and summer.
Conclusion: Reaching for the mass market
With the Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer and Scriber, Meta is taking a strategically important step. Instead of positioning smart glasses as a niche product for technology enthusiasts, the company now wants to tap into the huge market of corrective eyewear wearers. According to EssilorLuxottica, over seven million pairs of Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses were sold in 2025 alone – an impressive figure, but with billions of potential users with vision correction, there is still plenty of room for improvement. A practical test will have to show whether the new models are actually convincing in terms of wearing comfort. But the direction is definitely right.
