Razer is expanding its esports portfolio with the Razer Huntsman V3 HE Magnetic 8KHz —the company’s first keyboard series featuring magnetic Hall-effect switches. It combines adjustable actuation points ranging from 0.1 to 4.0 mm with true 8,000-Hz polling and is now available in Tenkeyless and Mini 65% variants. Prices are €149.99 and €129.99, respectively.
With this launch, Razer is officially entering the magnetic switch category, where Wooting and other specialists have primarily set the standard until now. According to the company, Razer will continue to offer analog optical switches, but the new HE series is specifically aimed at competitive gamers looking for a magnetic keyboard.
Hall-Effect Switches with Adjustable Trigger Point
At the heart of the series are the Razer Hall Effect Magnetic Switches. Instead of a mechanical contact, they use magnetic sensors to measure how deeply a key is pressed. The actuation point can be adjusted for each key between 0.1 and 4.0 mm—from lightning-fast inputs for gaming to a more relaxed setting for everyday typing.
Added to this is Rapid Trigger Mode: It resets keys based on movement rather than at a fixed point, enabling faster key repetitions. Razer specifies a lifespan of 100 million keystrokes.
True 8,000-Hz Polling and Low Latency
Thanks to HyperPolling, the keyboard achieves a true polling rate of 8,000 Hz. In Razer’s own tests—all devices set to a 0.1 mm actuation point and 8,000 Hz—the HE Magnetic Switches recorded an average latency of 0.60 ms. According to the manufacturer, this is 8 percent lower than the next-best Hall-effect keyboard tested. These figures come from the manufacturer’s marketing lab, so an independent test is still pending.
New Input Features to Take on the Competition
More interesting than the raw numbers is what Razer adds on top of that with its software:
- Snap Flex assigns two actions to a single key—one when pressed, one when released. This allows you, for example, to prepare a grenade and throw it—along with a jump—when you release the key.
- Dynamic Keystroke assigns up to four actions to a single key depending on the depth of the press, ideal for combos and multi-step controls.
- Instant Cancel Control immediately cancels unwanted follow-up actions when the game situation changes.
- Dual-Keypress Priority protects movement commands from accidental counter-inputs and keeps movement consistent.
You can configure all of this either via Razer Synapse on your PC, directly on the keyboard, or via Synapse Web—the latter runs in your browser without requiring software installation and saves settings in onboard profiles. This is handy for LAN events and tournaments, where you don’t always play on your own computer.
