Razer Tomahawk Gaming Desktop: A compact gaming PC with powerful RTX 3080

While we can observe the trend towards ever larger consoles with the next-gen consoles Xbox Series X and Playstation 5, we see a different development on the PC side. Here we are trying to accommodate more and more power in less and less space. The Razer Tomahawk is a prime example of this. The compact gaming PC was already introduced by the US company at CES at the beginning of 2020.

Late release

Originally, the Tomahawk Gaming Desktop was to be launched in the first half of the year. However, the manufacturer was not able to keep to the planned release. But Razer seems to have used the time wisely. The company has made slight adjustments to the possible Features. When the gaming desktop was introduced, Razer was silent on the subject of price. Now at least we know a price for the entry-level model. This should be available in the USA at a price of almost 2,400 US dollars. An order should be possible during the course of December via Razers website.

Compact PC system with RGB

The dimensions of the Tomahawk are really amazing. So it comes in a size of 210 mm x 150 mm x 365 mm. In total the small SFF case has a volume of 11.5 liters. Because of the small design the Tomahawk reminds of the PC systems from Razer, which came in an eGPU case. Of course, the RGB lighting will also be able to communicate with Razer’s own Chroma system. This should make it easy to control the lighting. Despite its compact size, the Tomahawk can also accommodate large graphics cards. But that is not a must. So even discrete graphics cards can be installed. You should be able to buy the case optionally but also without a graphics card. Then also the PCIe slots are empty. Features should be able to equip the Tomahawk with an own graphics card.
Features are possible

Powerful

The Razer Tomahawk should also be available with high-end Features. On the graphics card side, you can choose the model Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080. This is a surprise. Finally, the announcement in January still said that a maximum of a GeForce RTX 2080 Super in the maximum Features was possible.

Besides the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition, one should also be able to profit from a Core i9-9980H with 8 cores in the high-end model. Features that round out the most expensive are 16 GB RAM, a 512 GB NVMe-SSD and a 2 TB HDD. If that is not enough, a second M.2 slot can be equipped with expansions.

Practical design with extendable insert

The Razer Tomahawk is based on a retractable insert. This is where the Intel Compute Element, memory, flash memory and processor are located. In addition, the power supply unit with 750 watts is located there. On top of that you can find the 2 TB HDD and the slot for the graphics card. The installation and removal should be very uncomplicated. According to Razer you should not need any tools for the removal.

Many connection possibilities

The Razer Tomahawk is based on CNC-milled aluminum. There are many different connections on the back. In addition to an HDMI 2.0 port, Razer has four USB 3.2 Gen2 (Type A) ports. In addition, there are two Thunderbolt 3 ports on the back, which can be accessed via USB-C connectors. The set of connectors is rounded off by a jack connector and two Gigabit Ethernet ports. The small case also has room for two 120 mm fans.
